If you have a 2nd class ticket or 1-day travelpass, you can travel 1st class on one route or for one day with a class upgrade.

You can always decide spontaneously whether you would like to travel in 1st class, by purchasing a route-specific class upgrade at the ticket machine or counter. For the class upgrade you will need a ticket, a 1-day travelpass or a GA travelcard for 2nd class.
Route-specific class upgrades are available at full or half price. Passengers with a Half-Fare travelcard, a 1-day travelpass for the Half-Fare travelcard or a 2nd class GA travelcard can obtain this at half price.

Class upgrade for 1 day.
By purchasing a 1-day class upgrade, you can turn your 2nd class 1-day travelpass into a 1st class travelpass. The same applies if you only travel after 9 a.m. during the week, whereby the weekday class upgrade from 9 a.m. applies.

If you have a 2nd class GA travelcard, you can use it to travel 1st class at a reduced rate. You can obtain the class upgrade for the GA travelcard for individual routes, 1 day, 1 month or for the remaining period of validity.
