FLIRT stands for Flexible Lightweight Innovative Regional Train.
A four-part FLIRT vehicle includes:
- 141 2nd-class seats.
- 20 1st-class seats.
- 19 folding seats.
- Maximum speed of 160 km/h.
- Weight of 120 tonnes.
- Total length of 74 metres.

The history of Basel’s Regio-S-Bahn.
Wolfgang Fleischer from the Mobility Office at the canton of Basel-Stadt’s Building and Traffic Department has written a history of the city’s Regio-S-Bahn covering the period from the late 1960s to today. It can be downloaded here (PDF format, in German).

The term "Herzstück Regio S-Bahn Basel" means a new, powerful connection between the three stations SBB, Badischer Bahnhof and later even St. Johann.
