Railway operators must submit an application or order for  specific passenger and freight paths to Trasse Schweiz AG. Deadlines are listed in the conditions for ordering paths published by Trasse Schweiz AG for each annual timetable.

Railway operators order train paths and feasibility studies with the ordering tools provided. Regardless of the type of transport, orders are processed by SBB Infrastructure on a first come, first served basis.

To order paths, railway operators can use the AVIS and NeTS-AVIS tools. As soon as the operator signs the network-access agreement, the ordering tool is made available.
