Responsibility for society and the environment.
More people use the train in Switzerland than in any other country in the world. 977,000 people travel with SBB every day. In order to develop our products sustainably and in line with demand, we need to have a constant dialogue with our customers. For many people SBB is much more than a modern, efficient railway company. As an employer and work provider and as a steward of the environment and its natural resources, our company has a duty to provide leadership and to act as a role model. We have developed a comprehensive sustainability strategy to help us achieve this.

Customers
Every day, 900,000 customers put their trust in SBB. This success brings with it an obligation to know and respect our passengers’ opinions. Which is why we measure customer satisfaction on a regular basis. Every year, we carry out a telephone survey of 20,000 passengers.

Locational factor and economic driver
SBB is Switzerland’s largest transport operator and its fourth-largest employer. Its annual order volume in 2009 was almost CHF 3.5 billion, about 87 % of which stayed in Switzerland. SBB creates direct added value of over CHF 6 billion, every franc of which generates a further 2.5 francs in supplementary added value. SBB directly employs just under 28,000 people while providing work for a further 15,700 in supplier companies. Its many other positive effects are harder to measure in figures.
