Rail catering abroad: enjoy your journey.

You can enjoy travelling abroad from Switzerland: in the dining cars of various partner railways.

Germany

InterCityExpress (ICE).

InterCityExpress (ICE) trains offer a wide range of rail catering: an on-board bistro or an on-board restaurant, eating at your seat in 1st class or a refreshment trolley.

Seat reservation in the on-board restaurant.

Individual passengers.
Seats are not reserved in the on-board restaurant for individual passengers.

Groups.
It is possible to book seats in the on-board restaurant for groups of at least 4 to a maximum of 28 passengers. The menu required must be pre-ordered when the booking is made.

Groups of ten or more persons may pre-order a group package to their seats. Bookings can be made both in 1st and 2nd class.

EuroCity (EC) and InterCity (IC).

From Switzerland you can travel outward and return in EuroCity or InterCity trains to Munich (EC 190–197), Stuttgart (IC 180-187, 280-285) and Hamburg Altona (EC 6 / 7, 100-102). As with the national trains, you benefit from an SBB Restaurant as well as an SBB Minibar in these trains.

 

Italy

You can travel to Italy in SBB and Trenitalia EuroCity trains.

On SBB trains, an SBB dining car is provided between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. just as on national services. You can also select snacks and drinks from the refreshment trolley between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Individual passengers.
You can book seats in the dining car direct at the SBB ticket counter or by telephone via Rail Service on 0900 300 300 (CHF 1.19/min. on the Swiss fixed-line network). We deduct the booking supplement of CHF 5 per seat from your meal bill.

Groups.
For groups of 10 or more, we can organise special menus in the SBB Restaurant or special items from the SBB Minibar as required, or individual catering services.

EC 12, 14, 17, 20, 23 und 35.

Trenitalia uses its own catering provider, T & b, in their dining cars. Trains 17, 23 and 25 have a dining car, trains 12, 14 and 20 a serviced snack bar. All trains dispose of a Minibar. Reservations for the dining car can only be taken for groups (booking.office.tr@trenosrl.it).

France

You can travel to France from Switzerland with the TGV and TGV Lyria and there is a varied on-board catering service for your culinary enjoyment. As part of the Lyriapremière service between Switzerland and Dijon/Paris, your meal in 1st class will be served to you at your seat. You can pre-order it before your departure. There is an on-board bistro or on-board bar available depending on the route.

As the TGV on-board bistro has no seating, seat reservations cannot be made.

Groups of ten or more:
You can pre-order food and drink before you set off and have your meal served at your seat (orders must be placed at least seven days before departure). This offer is valid for passengers travelling in 1st and 2nd class.

Austria

Since 1 April 2012, railjet catering services have been provided by DO&CO. If you travel 1st class to Austria on board a railjet train, you will be served specialities and drinks from the railjet bistro directly at your seat. The bistro offers a large selection of food and drinks, which passengers travelling in 2nd/Economy class can take away. There is also a mobile trolley service featuring Nespresso coffee.

Reserving a seat in the restaurant car.
Passengers cannot reserve a seat in the railjet bistro. It is recommended that groups of more than twelve people place their food orders in advance.

City Night Line

By City Night Line to Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

When you travel overnight with City Line, the catering options are snacks from the refreshment trolley or a dining car, depending on the route.

You can books seats by e-mail or telephone, giving your name, telephone number, the number of passengers, the date and the route required.

For individual passengers, up to 1 day before departure up to 4 p.m., and for groups of 8 or more up to 3 working days before departure at the latest.
