The installation over SMS or by entering the link doesn’t work.
Probably you have not yet set up WAP or your WAP settings have not been configured correctly. Ask your network provider to send you a service-setting SMS to your mobile phone. You will then have the WAP settings configured on your mobile phone. The relevant information on settings/configurations are available from each provider online:
By Siemens mobile phones: the HTTP- resp. JAVA Profile has not been set up. As well as the normal WAP settings you should also configure the HTTP resp. JAVA Profile. Information regarding the latter is available by your network provider (usually on the website).
No internet connection possible.
If the internet connection is lost during a route calculation, when attempting to access real-time information or when refreshing the News page, a message will appear to tell the user that an error has occurred while he/she is attempting to access the timetable server. Make sure that you are connected to the internet via internet (Swisscom: "Internet", "Sunrise WEB", "Orange Internet", "Tele2 GPRS"), not via WAP.
Installation on BlackBerry® not possible.
If the message "You need a mobile phone to access the content of this page" appears after you enter the download link www.rail.ch/sbbmobile, it means that your BlackBerry® could not be identified by the automatic device recognition system.
You will have to modify the browser configuration in the BlackBerry®. In the browser, press Menu key, Options and Browser configuration and set the emulation mode to BlackBerry® (device emulation doesn't work with the Internet Explorer emulator).
Your employer may have set up the device so that you cannot install your own software. You would then need to contact the department responsible.
Where is the software installed?
The folder in which the software is installed cannot be altered according to the brand or model of mobile. As a rule, the software is saved under Applications, Programs or Games. On phones using the Windows Mobile™ operating system, the software is installed under Programs -> Java (Virtual Machine).
Costs.
Is the download of SBB Mobile really free of charge?
The download of the SBB Mobile JAVA applications for WAP function over www.rail.ch/sbbmobile is free of charge. A possible once-only data-transfer cost may apply according to your network provider and contract. If for example, you have registered for WAP flat rate, you incur no additional costs for the installation of the mobile phone travel guide.
When you install SBB Mobile per SMS, you incur a once-only charge of CHF 0.60 and possibly data transfer cost according to your network provider and contract.
How much does it cost to call up travel timetables, maps etc.?
On calling up such information, possible data costs may apply according to your network provider and contract. Data that you have already called up will be saved and can be called up again at any time without additional costs.
Supported mobile phones.
What does SBB Mobile support?
SBB Mobile basically supports all Java-capable mobile phone models. If you have access to WAP pages or the internet with your mobile phone, most probably your mobile phone also supports SBB Mobile.
My mobile phone is not on the compatibility list.
New mobile phones models are constantly being tested to ensure that ticket purchasing and timetable retrieval is working smoothly. The models are released and publicised following successful testing. We suggest that you check regularly for supported devices at Compatibility list.
Timetable functions.
Where are my timetables saved?
All timetable queries are saved in “Favorites” (previously “My timetables”).
When is a timetable query made online?
In order to offer you the most up-to-date timetables at any time, each timetable query is made online. If you do not want this function, you have the option of removing real-time enquiries via the menu, “Help/Settings” – “Internet settings” – “Automatic real-time enquiry”. The first timetable enquiry for a route is then made online. Subsequent enquiries are called up offline.
Should you wish to make an enquiry online from time to time, you may enter a real-time enquiry manually in the summary under the “Real-time information” menu.
Ticket features.
What do I need to remember when starting my journey?
MobileTickets are personal and non-transferable. Because personal details of the MobileTicket-holder are printed on the ticket, you must also be able to provide a personal identity document (passport, ID card, driving licence or Half-Fare or GA travelcard) when your ticket is inspected.
Up to what point can I purchase a MobileTicket?
You may only buy your MobileTicket up to the timetabled departure of the train.
Where is my purchased MobileTicket stored?
Purchased MobileTickets are stored under “Tickets”, “Show Tickets”. Should a purchased ticket not be available, you can call this up again under “Special functions”, “Ticket request”.
Can I purchase MobileTickets for other people / several people?
Yes. The “Ticket for accompanying passengers” offers the option of purchasing the same ticket for a maximum of 8 additional passengers travelling with you. The class and destinations cannot be changed. Please note: When buying tickets for accompanying passengers, you must travel together for the outward and return journeys.
Can I pay for MobileTickets using the Postfinance card?
Yes, since October 2011 you can register the PostFinance Card as a means of payment for MobileTickets. For the initial registration, you need to identify yourself with the PostFinance card reader. Subsequent public transport tickets purchased with the SBB Mobile app will be paid for with the registered PostFinance Card. For security reasons, PostFinance has set a limit of CHF 500 per month. For any purchases over this limit, you will have to identify yourself with the card reader again.
To register the PostFinance Card as the means of payment for SBB Mobile, simply complete the registration on your PC at the online Ticket Shop. Once the PostFinance Card has been defined as the means of payment, you can buy public transport tickets using the SBB Mobile app.
How do I obtain a receipt or VAT receipt?
The following two options exist:
Option 1:
Register with the SBB Ticket Shop with your user name and password. The MobileTickets you have ordered are listed under “My account”, “My orders”. To view the details of individual bookings, click on “Select”.
Option 2:
To obtain a quarterly VAT receipt for the MobileTickets and OnlineTickets you have purchased, please proceed as follows:
Register with the SBB Ticket Shop with your user name and password.
Under “My account”, “For business customers: VAT receipts” you can activate the field “Please send me a quarterly VAT receipt for my Ticket Shop purchases”.
Complete the mandatory fields and save the entries.
Can MobileTickets be refunded?
MobileTickets cannot be refunded. Exceptions are:
- Customer illness (which makes carrying out the journey impossible – must be confirmed with a doctor’s certificate)
- In event of death
- Corporate customers registered with SBB Businesstravel
If you have purchased an MobileTicket and have not used it for one of the reasons listed above, fill out the written refund application and send it to the address given below.
Settings.
Language change.
Under the menu Help/Settings – Program settings - Language the dialog language can be changed
The following languages are availabe:
- German
- French
- Italian
- English
Notice: Some texts are generated centrally and not influenced by the language change.
Why is my login not accepted on the mobile phone?
Only the following characters are permissible in the user name and password:
- the letters a-z and A-Z
- the numbers 0-9
- the special characters @ _ - .
SBB Mobile only works very slowly.
Please ensure that SBB Mobile is stored in the telephone memory and not on the memory card.
Map Cache Setting.
Under the menu Help/Settings – Internet settings - Map cache the quantity of tiles provisionally stored on the mobile phone is controlled.
Large: saves as many tiles as possible.
Small: a minimum of saved tiles.
With newer phones the value Large can generally be used.
Explanation: On calling up the same map, the individual tiles are loaded from the local telephone storage and deliberately not called up via an internet connection to the server. Hence the costs for data transfer are reduced.
Changing the font size.
Under the menu Help/Settings – Program settings - Font Size the size of the letters can be changed.
- Large: facilitates reading.
- Medium: is the standard setting.
- Small: shows more information.
I have Windows Mobile installed on my mobile and the GPS doesn't work. Why not?
SBB Mobile is a Java application that uses the interfaces supplied via the mobile's J2ME environment. These are: JSR-82 for GPS receivers coupled via Bluetooth, and JSR-179 for devices with an integrated GPS receiver receiving data from Location API.
The J2ME environments that are generally used under Windows Mobile™ (versions 5 / 6 / 2003) do not offer Java applications these interfaces to the GPS receiver. This applies both to devices with built-in GPS and to those connected via Bluetooth.
