Managing parking spaces creates more room.
When a company has its own parking spaces, this can result in considerable running costs, depending on both the location and the size of the company. These expensive parking spaces are often used by employees free of charge, meaning that they cannot be used by customers or suppliers or rented out (externally), or even that they occupy space that could otherwise be used for expanding the company premises. What’s more, employees who commute to work by public transport or non-motorised transport don’t enjoy the same perk.
So there are good reasons for encouraging employees to make the switch from car to public transport through sustainable parking space management:
- Eliminate parking space shortages.
- Cultivate fairness and reconcile additional benefits between drivers and non-drivers: employees who commute to work by environmentally friendly modes of transport are supported by a mobility bonus.
- Promote public and non-motorised transport. This helps to reduce the volume of traffic and its detrimental impact on the environment.
There are many ways of implementing this: for instance, parking spaces can be made available free of charge only to employees who have a long commute. The additional revenue generated by parking spaces can be used to fund public transport travelcards.
