What products are available on the SwissPass?

Currently, public transport travelcards such as GA, Half Fare, Regional, Point-to-Point and Modular Travelcards, the Junior Travelcard and the Children’s Co-Travelcard as well as P+Rail Travelcards are available on the SwissPass. Individual tickets are not yet available on the SwissPass. Moreover, various partner services can also be held on the SwissPass, such as Mobility passes, access to ski resorts, etc.

Why do I need to send in a new photo for my SwissPass card?

Your SwissPass card is automatically replaced every five years. If your photo has been stored for more than five or ten years when the card is replaced, we will require a new passport photo from you. A new passport photo is required every five years (until the age of 25); every ten years (from the age of 25 and over). We will contact you by e-mail or post when we require a new photo from you. Do I have to be online throughout the journey to show SwissPass Mobile?

No, this is not necessary. SwissPass Mobile can also be used offline. However, you need to regularly connect to the internet (we recommend doing so at least once a week). Otherwise, SwissPass Mobile will be shown as invalid.

How is data protection safeguarded?

Protecting your privacy means a lot to us. We respect your identity and privacy and ensure that they are protected and that your personal data is processed in accordance with the applicable laws. No personal data or services are stored on your SwissPass. Swiss transport companies cannot locate your SwissPass or use it to track your movements. Any data generated when your SwissPass is inspected on the train will immediately be deleted again after the inspection. Inspection data will therefore not be processed. No unauthorised persons will have access to your data. If your travelcards or partner services are paid for by another person or your company, that person or company will have access to the services they have paid for but not to any other data.

How do I get my new SwissPass card?

You don’t need to take any action. New customers will receive the new SwissPass from mid-December 2021 onwards. Current card holders will automatically receive a new generation SwissPass card free of charge once their existing card expires after five years.

What happens with partner services stored on my card when I switch to the new card?

Most existing services will not be transferred from partner services to the new card. Please contact the respective partner service to find out how to transfer your services.

Has your SwissPass card been lost, damaged or stolen? No problem, you can order a SwissPass replacement card for CHF 30 online at SBB.ch, via the SBB Contact Center or at a staffed public transport point of sale.

How can I order a replacement SwissPass card online?

Here’s how it works:

Select the payment method for paying the CHF 30 fee.
You will receive your new SwissPass card by post.

The SwissPass card (and with it the SwissPass too) provides you access to public transport and to countless partner services in Switzerland. The SwissPass card is equipped with two electronic RFID chips – a technology already used for ski passes, for example. These chips store your personal SwissPass number, which is needed to check your name and travelcard. Therefore, we say that information is “held on the SwissPass” or “referenced on the SwissPass”, since the travelcards themselves are not loaded onto the card, but are simply linked to it.

When you purchase a public transport travelcard that can be held on the SwissPass for the first time, you will receive your SwissPass card with the travelcard automatically and free of charge. You can purchase your new travelcard on the SwissPass both online and at any staffed public transport point of sale.

Your identity will be verified when you make the purchase. When purchasing at a point of sale, you must present a passport or ID card to verify your identity. Please also bring a recent passport photo along with you.

When purchasing online, the identity check forms part of the purchasing process. To complete the check, you will need a passport or an ID card and a smartphone with a camera. You will also need a recent, high-quality, digital passport photo.

Online purchase with an identity check is not possible for other persons.

SwissPass card without a travelcard.

You can also get the SwissPass for free without a travelcard from public transport points of sale, meaning you can then benefit from our partner services. In order to obtain your SwissPass, please bring a valid ID card (or other official identity document) and a recent passport photograph with you.

Your SwissPass card is automatically replaced every five years. If your photo has been stored for more than five or ten years when the card is replaced, we will require a new passport photo from you.

A new passport photo is required

every five years (until the age of 25);
every ten years (from the age of 25 and over).

If you leave your SwissPass at home or in the office, you can display it very easily in the SBB Mobile app in the Tickets & SwissPass tile (you must have a login with a linked customer number).

Alternatively, you can buy a temporary card at a public transport point of sale for a fee of CHF 5 on presentation of official ID.

SwissPass Mobile lets you show the public transport travelcards on your SwissPass card conveniently on a digital device (e.g. smartphone or tablet). Various Swiss transport company apps already support SwissPass Mobile, including SBB Mobile and SBB Mobile Preview. To display your travelcard digitally, you have to be logged into the app with your SwissPass login. So when there’s a ticket check, you can keep the SwissPass card in your pocket.

To use SwissPass Mobile, you need a valid SwissPass card, a SwissPass login which is linked to the card and an app which supports SwissPass Mobile.

If you don’t yet have a SwissPass login, you need to register once before you can use these services.

We recommend that you always take the SwissPass card with you on your journey – for example, in case you have no battery left or you have another technical problem.

Staff checking tickets can look up your details if you show ID. However, this service comes under “forgotten travelcard” and you will be charged a fee of CHF 5, as it takes staff somewhat longer than just quickly checking the SwissPass card.

How to get tickets bought as a guest into SwissPass/SBB account

Hello, I've bought Swiss Travel Pass and reservations for panoramic trains as a guest. Can I somehow connect them to my SwissPass account? They have been bought on the same e-mail adress

You cannot add tickets bought as a guest to an existing SwissPass account. You would have had bought it while being logged-in.Kindly note, tickets purchased via your smartphone are personal and non-transferable and are only valid in conjunction with a valid form of ID belonging to the person travelling (passport, identity card, driving licence). Bought the wrong type of ticket

Yep, I bought the wrong tickets today. And I think I'm stuck with them. The whole SwissPass ordeal is very overwhelming for foreigners. I wish they would put an alert on the SuperSaver ticket page "YOU MUST FIRST BUY THE HALF FARE TRAVELCARD IF YOU WANT TO BUY A SUPERSAVER TICKET". That would save alot of people alot of headaches. The rest of Europe is very simple to navigate, Lol.

Hello @NgocLink opens in new window. Supersaver tickets are also available without the Half Fare Card reduction. It's a matter of choosing the right ticket. The cheapest ticket available is the Supersaver ticket at half fare. Having worked as a Flight Attendant for 10 years, and therefore travelled the world, I would not agree that Switzerland, what concerns the public transport system, is the country with the most complex ticketing system. As in every country, asking the locals is advisable, this is why we have the SBB Community platform, for example. We gladly assist you with any ticket concern.Kind regards,
