• The first Swiss exhibition on the Zurich-born artist Johann Heinrich Füssli in 13 years.
  • Paintings from Basel’s public art collection, complemented by works from the Museum for Modern Art in Zurich and from other international museums and private collections.

Johann Heinrich Füssli was one of the most inventive and unconventional revivalists of the late 18th century.

He was fond of taking up motifs from literature, such as themes from Shakespeare’s dramas. The monographic exhibition with numerous international loans retraces dramatic concepts in Füssli’s art.
