The Pharmacy Museum of the University of Basel offers an overview of the history of medicines and displays old remedies and medicaments as well as first-aid kits. You can also discover entire laboratories as well as art and crafts, books on herbs, amulets and more.

Set up as a place of reference for university studies and records, the Pharmacy Museum is still preserved today in its original form as a repository for scientific information. It includes an extensive collection documenting drugs from throughout the world as they were once used, thereby illustrating various ideas on diseases and healing methods over the course of time. You can also look forward to viewing two historical laboratories in the exhibition. The alchemist laboratory with originals from the 16th and 17th century tells of the search for the philosophers’ stone. And in the pharmacy laboratory from around 1800, you will see the manual processing of medicinal plants.
