Riccardo Chailly and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra’s performance includes Mendelssohn’s powerful symphony cantata “Lobgesang” (Hymn of Praise), allowing his music to enter into a dialogue with works by his composer friends Frédéric Chopin and Robert Schumann. In addition, Sergei Rachmaninoff, who chose to live in Lucerne, will be celebrated on what would be his 150th birthday: with a tribute by the duo Igudesman & Joo, who combine classical with comedy.
