Hanover – the youthful Hanseatic city.

Want to discover a city that boasts beautiful ornamental gardens as well as a mediaeval town centre? Visit Hanover.

Originally a mediaeval settlement, Hanover is one of the German cities which was badly damaged in the Second World War. Many buildings and shopping streets have therefore been rebuilt in a more modern style, giving the city its youthful character.

Discover the original charm of the city and visit the old town district around the Marktkirche. Just forty buildings from the pre-war period have survived. The other houses which form today’s old town centre were gathered from around the city in the 1950s to fill in the gaps.

The effort was worth it: The streets around the Marktkirche look as they did in days gone by and give the city of Hanover part of its mediaeval identity back again.
