It is important that the front wheel is disassembled.
A bike can be transported as hand luggage in the following countries. Various restrictions apply.
Bike carry cases are allowed on ICE, EC and IC trains, on the condition that the maximum dimensions of length 1.50 m, circumference 3 m and weight 31.5 kg are adhered to.
Bike carry cases are not permitted on the IC bus.
You can take your bike carry case on the night trains if it will fit in the storage areas.
A bike may be taken in a transportation case on any train. The maximum dimensions of 120 × 90 cm must be complied with.
Bike carry cases with dimensions of up to 80 × 110 × 40 cm are permitted on EuroCity trains. For space reasons, train staff may refuse to accept bikes in transportation cases.
It is possible to take a bike on other trains provided the maximum dimensions of 80 × 110 × 40 cm are adhered to.
You can take your bike carry case on the night trains to Vienna and Graz if it will fit in the storage areas.
You cannot take your bike carry case on the night train to Villach.

The international bike ticket.
For self-service loading of bicycles to be taken cross-border you require an international bike ticket. It is also compulsory to make a reservation.
The international bike ticket is valid from the station of departure to the destination, in accordance with the passenger ticket.
It is available for the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The obligatory reservation is included in the price of the international bike ticket but only applies to the first cross-border train. You can make the reservation for the return journey in advance.

France. For TGV Lyria trains all bicycles must be packed in travel bags, maximum dimensions 120x90 cm.
Italy. For EuroCity trains in Switzerland and Italy you require a reservation as well as a bike ticket for Italy (CHF 20). The bike reservation must be made together with the seat reservation at the ticket counter.
