The RER Fribourg I Freiburg was established on 11 December 2011 when RegioExpress Bulle–Bern trains were launched on a fully modernised line between Bulle and Romont. 

The RER Fribourg I Freiburg has been expanded every year in the decade since its launch; it now serves the entire canton, with trains typically running every 30 minutes. The RER Fribourg | Freiburg is the result of collaboration between SBB and TPF. It facilitates the mobility of its passengers every day as they travel to work, for school or during their leisure time.
