The new direct rail link RegioExpress Bulle–Romont–Fribourg/Freiburg–Bern is launched. This represents the first stage in the expansion of the RER Fribourg I Freiburg.

A train runs every 30 minutes during the day on weekdays on the S30 Fribourg/Freiburg–Yverdon-les-Bains and S40 Fribourg/Freiburg–Romont lines, as well as between Murten/Morat and Kerzers. This is the second stage in the expansion of the RER Fribourg I Freiburg, which is concluded in December 2017 when trains begin to run every 30 minutes between Fribourg/Freiburg and Murten/Morat.
New stations at Grolley and Cheyres enable trains to cross.

Trains between Fribourg/Freiburg and Murten/Morat run every 30 minutes during the day on weekdays. The S21 Fribourg/Freiburg–Murten/Morat–Kerzers line is now extended as far as Ins. In combination with the S20 Fribourg/Freiburg–Neuchâtel line, this results in a service every 30 minutes between Fribourg/Freiburg and Ins.
Between Murten/Morat and Kerzers, the provision of services every 30 minutes is extended to include evenings and weekends.
New stations at Pensier and Münchenwiler-Courgevaux enable trains to cross.
The train times on the S30 Yverdon-les-Bains–Fribourg/Freiburg line are shifted by 15 minutes.
More trains run on the S40 Fribourg/Freiburg–Romont line.
The S51 and S52 lines are replaced by lines S50 and S60; a train now runs between Bulle and Palézieux every 30 minutes during peak hours.

RegioExpress Bulle–Romont–Fribourg/Freiburg–Bern trains now serve Düdingen every hour.

Givisiez station is reopened following its major transformation. Givisiez is served every 15 minutes by trains on the S20, S21 and S30 lines running to and from Fribourg. This is the first stage in the introduction of services every 15 minutes within the Fribourg conurbation.
The S21 Fribourg/Freiburg–Ins line now also runs in the evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays.
RegioExpress trains are in operation between Bulle and Fribourg/Freiburg every 30 minutes on all weekdays and until the end of service.
The frequency of trains running on the S50 line between Bulle and Palézieux is changed; trains now run every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday.
The new Châtel-St-Denis station is put into service.

On the S30 Yverdon-les-Bains–Fribourg/Freiburg line, the frequency of trains changes to every 30 minutes on weekdays until the end of service.

RegioExpress Bulle–Fribourg/Freiburg trains will be extended to Düdingen.
The S40 line Romont–Fribourg/Freiburg will be replaced by the S20 Romont–Neuchâtel and S21 Romont–Ins lines. New direct journeiys will be possible within the Fribourg conurbation.
TPF will take over the operation of RER Fribourg I Freiburg trains on the Romont–Fribourg/Freiburg route from SBB.
