An app is the best way to enable customers to experience Swiss tourism using virtual reality (VR). An app’s content can be ideally adjusted to make it easy for users to navigate.
The “SBB VR” app is the full version of the preview that has already been launched. We consider it essential to make sure that the SBB Mobile app always functions reliably, so we are testing possible expansions in a standalone app first.
The app can be used on all Apple devices with iOS11 or later versions. However, users will need at least an iPhone 6. The app can also be used on all Android devices with Android 5.0 or later versions.
The app is also available in the Oculus store.
The app needs the 360 video plugin, which is only available on Android 5.0 or later versions. The app cannot be used without this plugin.
Together with our partners, we want to enable users to enjoy Swiss tourism and, by doing so, gain experience of virtual reality.
We have been working with Switzerland Tourism, Swiss Travel System, RailAway and the tourist offices for Zurich, Lugano, Basel and Zermatt to create the content for the full version of the app.
The app provides our customers with inspiration for leisure trips to a variety of destinations in Switzerland, all in virtual reality.
If you pay close attention while using the app, you could also win sponsored prizes worth CHF 10,000.
No, you don’t need glasses to use the app. However, if you’d like to experience the full range of features available in the VR app, we recommend using Cardboard or Samsung Gear glasses.
No, it is not possible to book an offer in the app (yet).
With the app, you can still discover Arosa and Lucerne (including Pilatus). We have also added new adventures in Zurich, Lugano and Zermatt and there will be more later in Basel. You can also experience spectacular railway journeys of the Grand Train Tour of Switzerland in 360 degrees. These routes are included:
