Information regarding rail travel to and from Germany.

Due to an interruption between Baden-Baden and Rastatt Süd (D), 60 to 90 minutes longer travel times are expected. According to the latest forecasts from DB Netz, the route will remain closed until 1 October 2017.

Long-distance services..

  • The ICE connections from the North terminate in Karlsruhe or Rastatt. The ICE connections from Switzerland terminate in Baden-Baden. The EC connections from Hamburg are cancelled.
  • Shuttle bus rail replacement services are running between Rastatt and Baden-Baden. Passengers should expect 60 to 90 minutes longer travel times. (See route map Basel SBB–Rastatt (PDF, 340 KB)This document is not barrier-free. (PDF, 340 KB)).  Unfortunately, reservations between Switzerland and Germany are not possible at this time.
  • Hourly replacement trains are running between Basel SBB (xx:13) and Baden-Baden.
  • EuroNight (EN)/Nightjet train services are cancelled.

Impact on customers in Switzerland.

All connections to/from Germany begin and end in Basel SBB with connections to the other lost-distance services. There is an hourly connection between Basel SBB and Baden-Baden. An ICE runs on the even hours and an IC on the odd hours. Rail replacement buses between Baden-Baden and Rastatt are provided. In Rastatt there are connections to long-distance services.

All ICE connections within Switzerland have been replaced by SBB trains so that the ICE trains can be used for Basel SBB–Baden-Baden commuter traffic. There are no train cancellations within Switzerland as a result of this; however, different train compositions are running without dining cars and some rolling stock does not have air conditioning.

The late connection with Train 208, departure in Basel SBB at 11.13 p.m. is cancelled. Instead there is a replacement connection departing from Basel SBB already at 10.13 p.m. with change in Baden-Baden.

Loading bicycles.

Loading bicycles is unfortunately not possible at this time, as Deutsche Bahn cannot guarantee that the bikes can be transported in the shuttle buses. Passengers with bicycles can be routed through Schaffhausen–Singen–Ulm.

Refunds.

Refunds bare possible at SBB free of charge. Only rail services purchased in Switzerland will be refunded (i.e. no hotel stays or other third-party services). In case of delays, the valid passenger rights apply.

Night trains to and from Hamburg.

The night train EuroNight/NightJet Zurich–Berlin–Hamburg is cancelled.

SBB GmbH Deutschland.

The S5/S6 lines of SBB GmbH Deutschland from Basel SBB to Weil am Rhein and to Zell im Wiesental are not affected by the route disruption. The trains are running according to the timetable.

DB regional services.

Cancellations are expected for regional services between Rastatt and Baden-Baden. Shuttle bus rail replacement services are running here, too. Passengers with regional train tickets may also use long-distance trains to Karlsruhe and vice versa.

In spite of the construction sites, all connections to Germany can be maintained thanks to reliable replacement concepts. Journeys are still possible.

The latest information can be found any time in the current notifications regarding the rail traffic situation.
