More eco-friendly throughout Switzerland.
Environment, sustainability and energy consumption. Koni Schmid puts great effort into addressing these issues which are also very close to his heart. This is why he had a photovoltaic system installed on the roof of his house five years ago. He is also soon set to replace his old oil-heating system with a heat pump.
Schmid also gave some thought to how he travels. “I’ve asked myself how I could get from A to B in a more eco-friendly way.” He soon toyed with the idea of buying an electric car. It was at this very time when he became aware of SBB Green Class and knew immediately: “That’s the ideal solution for me.”
Landing at the railway station.
Schmid has been combining his GA travelcard, which he has held for over 20 years, with his personal electric car for more than two years. He drives from Pfyn, where he lives, to the nearest railway station, parks at the P+Rail and then uses public transport for the rest of the journey. He sometimes uses a bicycle or e-bike from PubliBike or takes a taxi – all of which is included in the SBB Green Class mobility package.
But Koni Schmid, who travels all over Germany on business, does not just use his SBB Green Class package for work, but also for his main hobby – paragliding. He often takes off from the Ebenalp in Alpstein. Yet unlike most other paragliders he does not land as close as he can to his point of take-off, but instead flies for as far as he can. “When my flight is coming to an end, I look for a railway station from above, land there and then travel by train and bus to get back to my car.”
Koni Schmid still has two and a half years left on his SBB Green Class package. He has already decided to renew it. “There are bound to be new technologies by then which will be incorporated into the services and that I can include in the package in line with my requirements and circumstances. You’re far better off opting for this kind of package than buying everything yourself.”
