If you have a 2nd class ticket or Day Pass, a class upgrade allows you to travel in 1st class on one route or for one day. You can even upgrade from a 2nd class GA travelcard to a 1st class one for a month.
You always have the option of deciding to travel first class on the spur of the moment. Pay for a class upgrade for the route concerned online, via the smartphone app, at the ticket machine or at the ticket counter. As a basis for the class upgrade, you require a second class ticket (an individual ticket, a Day Pass or a GA travelcard etc.).
Route-specific Class Upgrades are available at full or half price. Children from the age of 6 up to their 16th birthday and passengers with a Half Fare travelcard, a Day Pass for the Half Fare travelcard or a 2nd class GA travelcard can obtain a class upgrade at half price, and those travelling at full fare can buy one at full price.
With a Day Class Upgrade, you can travel in 1st class for a whole day.
Day Class Upgrades are only valid in conjunction with a Half Fare travelcard and a Day Pass (Day Pass for the Half Fare travelcard, municipal Day Pass, special Day Pass, Saver Day Pass) or with a 2nd class GA travelcard.

Your 2nd class GA travelcard entitles you to travel in 1st class. Class upgrades are available for individual journeys, 1 day or 1 month. You can permanently upgrade your 2nd class GA travelcard to 1st class at any time during its period of validity.
Class upgrade for individual trips.
You can always decide spontaneously whether you would like to travel in 1st class. Buy a Route-specific Class Upgrade online or via the smartphone app (important: before the train departs), at ticket machines or at the ticket counter. Passengers with a 2nd class GA travelcard can obtain a class upgrade at half price.
Class upgrade for 1 day.
The Day Class Upgrade entitles you to one day’s 1st class travel with your 2nd class GA travelcard.
Class upgrade for 1 month.
The one-month class upgrade allows you to travel first class for a month with your second class GA travelcard. It is available online or at any ticket counter at the price of CHF 225 for a GA Travelcard for adults and CHF 165 for other GA Travelcards. One-month class upgrades are not available for the Familia GA travelcard for children and the 1-month GA Travelcard.
For GA Travelcard combinations, monthly class upgrades are only possible for discounted GA Travelcards if:
the basic GA Travelcard was issued for 1st class;
or a 1-month class upgrade with the same first day of validity is also purchased for the basic GA Travelcard.
You can permanently upgrade your 2nd class GA travelcard to 1st class at any time during its period of validity. The charge for your new GA travelcard is reduced pro rata in respect of the remaining term of the old one. Please note that the Duo partner GA travelcard and Familia GA travelcard for partners can only be permanently upgraded if combined with a 1st class basic GA travelcard.

For journeys within fare networks and regional transport networks, integrated fare tickets must be purchased.
