With a route-specific class upgrade, you can change to 1st class on your desired route on the spur of the moment and enjoy more legroom and comfort on your journey.
Children aged at least 6 and under 16 and passengers with a Half Fare Travelcard or a 2nd class GA Travelcard can purchase route-specific class upgrades at a discounted price.
Passengers aged at least 16 who do not have a Half Fare Travelcard or a 2nd class GA Travelcard can buy a class upgrade at full price.
If you are travelling on a long-distance train (EC, IC, IR) with passenger attendants, you can also buy a class upgrade on the train from the train crew. The minimum price of a class upgrade bought on the train is CHF 10. Important: To purchase a class upgrade, you must actively request this from the train crew.
The route-specific class upgrade can be purchased conveniently in the SBB Mobile / Preview app, at ticket machines or at a staffed public transport point of sale.
To make the switch to 1st class, you need to have one of the following 2nd class tickets as a basis: (Supersaver) ticket, Day Pass for the Half Fare Travelcard, Saver Day Pass, Municipal Saver Day Pass, Special Day Pass, GA Travelcard or a Regional / Point-to-Point / Modular Travelcard for the route.
It is essential to purchase or validate the class upgrade BEFORE the first scheduled departure time of the train.
