The Zurich Transport Network (ZVV), the neighbouring networks of A-Welle, Ostwind, Schwyz and Zug, and SBB have joined forces in the Z-Pass integrated fare network for the Zurich metropolitan and economic area.
The Z-Pass offers tickets for journeys between the Zurich Transport Network (ZVV) and the neighbouring networks of A-Welle, Ostwind, Schwyz and Zug. The zone fare applies here.
This means that for a journey from A to B, you purchase a ticket covering the relevant zones. The zone map shows you how many adjoining zones (areas) you need to purchase to get from A to B. Within the selected zones and during the period of validity, you can travel freely by train, bus, tram and, within the ZVV network, even by boat. This makes travelling across different transport networks easy, convenient and versatile.
The price depends on the number of zones selected. The two city zones of Zurich (110) and Winterthur (120) each count as two zones due to the extensive public transport network.
For journeys beyond the boundaries of the regional network, regional tickets and passes are valid until the last scheduled stop within the selected zones. Regional tickets and passes are not valid on SBB trains that do not stop within the zones covered by the ticket.
For connecting journeys within the fare networks of the Z-Pass, you must purchase a regional ticket that connects seamlessly with the Z-Pass, provided that there is a scheduled stop within the area of validity of the Z-Pass in the fare network of the connecting journey.
Example.
You hold a Baden–Schlieren Z-Pass covering zones 154, 570 and 572. For your connecting journey to Zurich main station, you will need the following ticket:
- For a journey on S-Bahn line 12 with a stop in zone 154:
ZVV ticket for zone 110 or a ZVV zone upgrade for 1–2 zones. Combining with a Schlieren–Zurich main station point-to-point ticket is also a valid option. - For a journey on the Baden–Zurich main station express train without a stop:
Z-Pass Baden–Zurich covering zones 110, 111, 117, 154, 570, 572.
Reason: The express train does not stop in ZVV zone 154. Therefore, no ticket combination is possible.
The availability of zone upgrades depends on the point of purchase. You can purchase the correct zone upgrade as an electronic ticket (e-ticket).
