Exploring the historic centre.
Turin – lively yet genteel. Visit the historic cafés, stroll through the Via Roma with its elegant shops and take a tour of spectacular highlights like the Renaissance cathedral or the Baroque Chapel of the Holy Shroud, an important pilgrimage site. Each Saturday at 10 a.m., a two-hour tour takes visitors through the attractions.
Home of the football record champion.
The famed football club Juventus Turin was officially named Italian champion 32 times, making it the most successful club in all of Italy. Visit the stadium where “Juve” has played its home matches since 2011 as well as the club museum where you can marvel at the countless winning trophies, pictures from the club’s history and recollections of leading Juve players such as Luca Toni, who shot the first goal in the new stadium.
An incredible array of museums.
A museum for every interest: The Egyptian Museum founded in 1824 is the oldest of its kind in Europe; Turin ranks as the birthplace of Egyptology. The Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile is one of the world’s most renowned scientific-technical museums. And the National Museum of Cinema, one of the first worldwide, is housed in Turin’s landmark building, the Mole Antonelliana, which affords a magnificent view over the city.
For wine connoisseurs.
They go by the names Barbera, Barbaresco and Barolo, the “king of wines and the wine of kings”: these three red wines from the Piedmont have long been favourites of both wine enthusiasts and experts. But it is also highly rewarding to discover the wines of smaller vintners, who ply their trade with passion and pride and whose wine-growing estates are well worth a visit.
Successful industry.
Lavazza was founded here along with Martini & Rossi and the aerospace company Alenia. And of course the car manufacturers Fiat and Lancia, which cemented Turin’s reputation as a car town. A visit should definitely be paid to the 500 m long Lingotto building, once the world’s largest automotive factory, which has been a unique centre for conventions, culture and shopping since 1982 – with a rooftop racetrack.
