Download the app and create an account.
- Download the ZIM@SBB app for iOSLink opens in new window.

Select and pay for the data package.
Install eSIM, activate data roaming and surf.

Compatible smartphones and tablets.

After download, the app automatically checks your device compatibility when opened. If your device does not support eSIM, the app will immediately display a clear message. This way, you will know immediately.

Activation on iOS.

In the ZIM@SBB app, you can find a tutorial which takes you through the eSIM installation and activation step-by-step.

After you purchase a data package, you can install the eSIM directly via the installation link in the app wallet. This is the easiest option. Tap on the link and follow the instructions on your device. You will be automatically guided through the installation process.

If you would like to carry out the installation via QR code or manually, you can find the relevant instructions below.

If you would like to activate your eSIM by scanning a QR code, follow these instructions:

Note: To scan the QR code with your smartphone or tablet, you need a second screen or device displaying the QR code for you to scan. If you do not have a second device available, please follow the manual instructions (see further down the page).

Step 1.

After purchasing your eSIM plan, you receive an e-mail with a QR code. Download the QR code and scan it.

Step 2.

Customise your plan according to the instructions.

Step 3.

When you arrive at your destination, make sure that you have set ZIM@SBB as your default line for data.

Do this by going to ‘Settings’ → ‘Mobile Data’ → ‘Mobile Data’ again → ‘ZIM@SBB’.

Step 4.

Don’t forget to turn on data roaming for ZIM@SBB and make sure that the data roaming for your primary SIM card is turned off.

How can I turn data roaming on?

To turn on data roaming for ZIM@SBB, go to ‘Settings’ → ‘Mobile Data’ → ‘ZIM@SBB’.
Click the toggle next to ‘Data Roaming’ so that you can see the green bar. This means that it’s turned on.

How do I switch off data roaming on my primary SIM card?

Go to ‘Mobile Data’ → ‘Primary SIM’ → Click the toggle next to ‘Data Roaming’ so that you cannot see the green bar. This means that it is switched off.
It may take a few minutes, but as soon as you see the data bars at the top right of your screen, you are all set.

Step 1.

After purchasing your eSIM data package, go to ‘Settings’ -> ‘Mobile Data’ -> ‘Add eSIM’.

Step 2.

Click on ‘Use QR Code’ and then on ‘Enter Details Manually’.

At this point, you should be on a page titled ‘Enter Activation Code’. Keep this page open.

Step 3.

Open the ZIM@SBB app. Go to your wallet -> ‘eSIM settings’. Then click on the three vertical dots in the corner of your eSIM plan for your options.

Step 4.

Copy the SM-DP + Address, then go back to the ‘Enter Activation Code’ page in your settings. Paste it into the space labelled ‘SM-DP + Address’. Do the same thing with the activation code, which you can copy from the same page in the app as the ‘SM-DP + Address’.

Step 5.

Don’t forget to turn on data roaming for ZIM@SBB and make sure that the data roaming for your primary SIM card is turned off.

Go to your settings -> ‘Connections’ -> ‘SIM Manager’ -> You will see a list of SIM cards. Your new eSIM must be active (make sure the toggle is green).

Once activated, go back, click ‘Mobile Networks’ and make sure data roaming is turned on.

That’s it. Pretty straightforward.
