Europe.
In summer 2026, construction works are expected on various lines south of Milan in Italy, sometimes at short notice. It is therefore recommended to check the online timetable before each journey.
2026: Fewer EC trains between Domodossola and Milan.
In Italy, the four-metre corridor between Domodossola and Milan will continue to be upgraded at least until the end of 2028, benefiting transalpine freight traffic. Therefore, also in 2026, as in previous years, one fewer train per direction will run from Monday to Friday between Basel–Bern–Milan and Geneva–Brig–Milan.
04 June to 25 June 2026: Engineering works between Chiasso and Milano Centrale.
Due to engineering works to be performed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), individual connections between Chiasso and Milano Centrale will be affected by complete or partial cancellations between 4 and 25 June, except for the weekends.
For EuroCity connections, a replacement bus service organised by Trenitalia will be provided between Chiasso and Milan. Longer journey times must be expected.
In addition to the cancellations between Chiasso and Milano Centrale of individual EuroCity connections terminating in or starting from Milan, EuroCity connections to Venice calling at Milan will be cancelled between Chiasso and Milano Centrale and will run normally between Milano Centrale and Venice. In the opposite direction, connections from Venice to Switzerland will run normally. Connections to Florence, on the other hand, will be cancelled on 4 June between Chiasso and Florence and on 5 June between Florence and Chiasso.
Note on the validity of tickets: in Italy, tickets purchased for a TILO regional connection are not valid on EuroCity trains in long-distance traffic and vice versa.
