From December 2025, SBB and Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) will gradually be introducing the new generation of Nightjets on night train routes. The first new trains will operate on the Zürich HB–Hamburg route from 4 December 2025 onwards. The new generation of Nightjet trains offers a comfortable and climate-friendly night-time travel experience with a modern design, more privacy, bicycle spaces, accessible compartments and many other amenities. Fixed beds, mini cabins for solo travellers and private showers and toilets in the sleeping cars make for a relaxed journey across Europe.

You can purchase tickets for your desired connection via the SBB Mobile app, online at SBB.ch using the timetable or you can seek advice at the ticket counter of your nearest SBB station.

The advance booking period is 6 months.

To take your bike along with you, you will need to purchase a separate ticket and reservation.

You can currently take a bicycle with you on the following connections.

Only a few bicycle spaces are available on each connection. We advise you to book early.

Tickets and reservations for group travel abroad can be requested using the online form. We will determine the best prices for the group journey for you and provide you with a non-binding offer.

Children aged 5 or under travel free of charge when they share the same seat as their parent. If you require a separate sleeping space for your children, you can purchase tickets for them at a discounted rate. Children aged between 6 and 15 can also benefit from discounted tickets. Are you travelling with a Eurail or Interrail Global Pass? If so, you can pay a surcharge to travel overnight in a ÖBB Nightjet sleeping, couchette or seating car. That way, you can save on the costs of a hotel and arrive at your destination completely relaxed the next morning.

The surcharge must be paid before departure to guarantee a free seat and to avoid the service surcharge for booking while on the train.

The best way to book your seat is at the ticket counter in your local Travel Centre.

Here are some tips for a pleasant journey on the Nightjet.

Standard compartments.

Standard compartments (bookable as single, double or triple compartments) offer:

• Personal washbasin in each compartment.
• Beds with fresh bedsheets.
• Welcome package.
• Comprehensive breakfast.
• Power socket.

Deluxe compartments.

Deluxe compartments (available as single or double compartments, not available on the Zürich HB–Amsterdam route) also offer:

• Personal bathroom with washbasin, shower and toilet.
• Shower gel and hand towels.

All compartments can be booked as private compartments (e.g. for families) at flat-rate prices.

In the evening, you can choose your breakfast for the next day from the menu of various dishes and drinks that is available in every compartment. It will be served to you in your compartment the next morning. You are also welcome to order hot and cold snacks and drinks to your compartment in the evening (payment required).

Mini cabins (only on the new generation of Nightjets).

Mini cabins are innovative sleeping capsules for more privacy. They offer:

• Innovative cocoon room concept with an area of 190 × 63.5 × 90cm (L×W×H) for solo travellers and couples (with sliding door).
• Lockers for hand luggage (max. 40 × 55 × 23cm) and shoes (max. 18 × 57 × 15cm) right next to the mini cabin.
• A folding table for breakfast.
• Reading lamp, storage space, coat hooks, mirror.

• Seats in a 6-person compartment or in the open coach
• Power socket
