In Germany, construction works take place throughout the year, particularly at weekends or during off-peak hours, which may result in train cancellations, diversions or delays. In the online timetable, these measures affecting rail traffic are sometimes only visible at short notice.
7 February 2026 to 12 December 2026: Timetable changes for EC Zurich–Munich.
From 7 February to 12 December 2026, timetable changes will affect the Munich–Buchloe section of the Zurich–Munich route. The reason: on some sections in Germany, line speed will need to be reduced for several kilometres.
In EuroCity traffic between Zurich and Munich, travel times are extended by around 10 minutes. In traffic from Munich to Zurich, some EuroCity trains depart from Munich towards Zurich a few minutes earlier. This adjustment has no impact on connections within Switzerland.
6 September 2026 to 4 October 2026: Construction work in the Munich area.
Due to construction work in the Munich area, all EC trains towards Zurich HB will depart from Munich Hbf around 20 minutes earlier. All EC trains from Zurich towards Munich will arrive at Munich Hbf late. Please check the online timetable for the exact arrival and departure times. It has been updated.
18 September 2026 to 21 September 2026: Engineering work between Müllheim and Offenburg on the Basel SBB–Offenburg route.
Due to engineering work between Müllheim and Offenburg, trains between Basel SBB and Offenburg will be cancelled from the evening of 18 September until the morning of 21 September 2026. One train per hour will run in each direction between Basel SBB and Müllheim. Rail replacement buses will operate between Müllheim and Offenburg. Journey times will be extended by 60 to 120 minutes. A limited number of ICE trains will run throughout, but will be diverted between Offenburg and Zurich HB and will call only at Singen.
Night trains are also affected by the construction work:
- The night train between Zurich and Hamburg will be diverted on the nights of 18/19 September, 19/20 September and 20/21 September. It will make an exceptional stop at Frankfurt Hbf instead of Frankfurt Süd.
- The night train between Hamburg and Zurich will be diverted on the nights of 18/19 September and 19/20 September. It will make an exceptional stop at Frankfurt Hbf instead of Frankfurt Süd. This train will also be diverted on the night of 20/21 September but will stop at Frankfurt Süd.
- The night train from Zürich HB to Amsterdam and vice versa will be cancelled on the nights of 18/19 September, 19/20 September and 20/21 September. A replacement train with seated coaches will operate between Frankfurt and Amsterdam in both directions. Passengers travelling from Zürich HB to Amsterdam should take IC 60470, departing Zürich HB at 9.59 pm, and change in Frankfurt to IC 60402 towards Amsterdam. Passengers travelling from Amsterdam to Zürich HB should take IC 60403, departing Amsterdam at 9.01 pm, and change in Frankfurt to IC 60471 towards Zurich. On the night of 20/21 September, passengers should take the S3 suburban train from Frankfurt to Frankfurt Main Süd, after a wait of approximately two hours in Frankfurt, and continue from Frankfurt Süd to Zürich HB on IC 60471.
- The night train between Zurich and Berlin/Prague, in both directions, will be diverted on the nights of 18/19, 19/20 and 20/21 September. It will not stop at Basel SBB, Basel Bad Bf or Freiburg im Breisgau.
2 October 2026 to 5 October 2026: Construction work between Basel Badischer Bahnhof and Freiburg im Breisgau.
Due to construction work between Basel Badischer Bahnhof and Freiburg im Breisgau, all ICE trains will be cancelled from 9.00 p.m. on 2 October until 6.00 a.m. on 5 October. Rail replacement buses will run hourly between Basel SBB, Basel Badischer Bahnhof and Freiburg im Breisgau. A small number of ICE trains will operate throughout but will be diverted between Offenburg and Zurich HB, stopping only at Singen. Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes.
Night trains will also be affected by the construction work:
- Night trains between Zurich HB and Amsterdam in both directions will be cancelled on the nights of 2/3 October, 3/4 October and 4/5 October. Passengers are entitled to cancel their journey.
- Night trains from Zurich to Hamburg will be diverted on the nights of 2/3 October, 3/4 October and 4/5 October and will not stop at Basel SBB, Basel Badischer Bahnhof or Freiburg im Breisgau. Passengers travelling from Basel should take regular trains to Zurich and change there for the diverted night trains. Their tickets will be valid on these trains.
- Night trains between Zurich and Berlin/Prague in both directions will be diverted on the nights of 3/4 October and 4/5 October and will not stop at Basel SBB, Basel Badischer Bahnhof, Freiburg im Breisgau, Offenburg or Karlsruhe. Passengers travelling from Basel should take regular trains to Zurich and change there for the diverted night trains. Their tickets will be valid on these trains.
- Night trains from Hamburg to Zurich will be diverted on the nights of 2/3 October and 3/4 October and will not stop at Freiburg im Breisgau, Basel Badischer Bahnhof or Basel SBB.
- Night trains from Prague/Berlin to Zurich will be diverted on the nights of 2/3 October and 3/4 October and will not stop at Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden, Offenburg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Basel Badischer Bahnhof or Basel SBB.
4 October 2026 to 12 October 2026: Construction work between Zurich HB and Munich.
From 4 to 12 October 2026, construction work will take place between Buchloe and Munich on the Zurich–Munich route. Some trains will be cancelled on Sunday, 4 October 2026, and Monday, 12 October 2026. From Monday, 5 October, to Sunday, 11 October 2026, all EC trains between Lindau-Reutin and Munich will be cancelled. Rail replacement buses will operate between Lindau-Reutin and Munich Central Bus Station at Hackerbrücke for most of the cancelled EC services.
12 October to 6 November 2026: Engineering work between Lindau and Munich.
Engineering work will take place between Lindau and Munich on the Zurich–Munich route from 12 October to 6 November 2026. From 12 to 30 October 2026, EC services departing from Munich will operate to amended timetables. Individual trains will be cancelled on Saturday, 17 October; Sunday, 18 October; Tuesday, 20 October; Friday, 30 October; and Friday, 6 November 2026. From Saturday, 31 October to Thursday, 5 November 2026 inclusive, all EC services between Lindau-Reutin and Munich will be cancelled. Rail replacement buses will operate between Lindau-Reutin and Munich ZOB Hackerbrücke for most cancelled EC services.
12 November to 17 November 2026: Engineering work between Memmingen and Munich.
Engineering work will take place between Memmingen and Munich on the Zurich–Munich route from 12 to 17 November 2026. Individual trains will be cancelled on Thursday, 12 November and Tuesday, 17 November 2026. From Friday, 13 November to Monday, 16 November 2026 inclusive, all EC services between Lindau-Reutin and Munich will be cancelled. Rail replacement buses will operate between Lindau-Reutin and Munich ZOB Hackerbrücke for most cancelled EC services.
24 November 2026 to 03 December 2026: Engineering works between Lindau-Reutin and Munich.
Engineering works will take place between Lindau-Reutin and Munich on the Zurich–Munich route from 24 November to 3 December 2026. Some trains will be cancelled on Tuesday, 24 November, Monday, 30 November and Thursday, 3 December 2026. From Wednesday, 25 November to Sunday, 29 November 2026, all EC services between Lindau-Reutin and Munich will be cancelled. Replacement buses will operate between Lindau-Reutin and Munich ZOB Hackerbrücke for most cancelled EC services.
