Dresden’s charming old town.

A tour of Dresden’s old town is a must for both young and old. Starting at the Zwinger Palace, which was used by Augustus the Strong as a party stronghold in the 18th century, then head to the rebuilt Frauenkirche with the largest stone church dome north of the Alps, and finally end your tour in the Grand Garden. This garden really is big. With an area 50% the size of New York’s Central Park, it has been described as its little brother.

Colourful New Town.

Crossing the Elbe via the Augustus Bridge, you can admire the baroque panorama of the city once again before heading straight into the trendy part of Dresden: the New Town. Especially in the summer months, the Elbe meadows here offer a space to have a barbecue, relax and unwind. They are followed by a small but beautiful baroque quarter around the historic Königstrasse boasting many exclusive shops. Directly adjacent to the Albertplatz is the Äussere Neustadt (Outer New Town) with around 150 or so bars and clubs, which make up Dresden’s hippest trendy district.

Dresden for art lovers.

The Saxon state capital is home to more than 50 museums. 15 museums are united under the umbrella of the Dresden State Art Collections, whose important exhibits and ambitious exhibition concepts will surely inspire you. But you also shouldn’t miss the Kunsthofpassage in the New Town. An “oasis for the senses”, as it calls itself, this is an artistic labyrinth consisting of several small courtyards that are thematically different.
