SBB Chat offers you the opportunity to receive quick and automated answers to your questions. These answers are formulated by generative artificial intelligence (AI), which has been trained to respond to a large number of customer enquiries.

An AI-powered chat uses artificial intelligence to hold conversations with users. The AI can respond to text input, answer questions and offer support.

Yes, SBB Chat is designed to protect the privacy of users while storing the entire conversation. Personal data such as first name, last name and customer number are only saved if you disclose these. We use the stored data zudem exclusively for the purpose of improving the chat function. No data is passed on to third parties.

Although SBB Chat is able to answer many questions, there are situations in which it may not be able to provide a correct or complete answer. If you are unsure, we recommend that you request a customer consultant by sending a message in the text field.

The chatbot in SBB Chat is based on a language model (more on this under the heading "Note on data protection") and generates its answers with the support of artificial intelligence. The chatbot can be used to request information about SBB and Swiss public transport services, for example: How can I deposit a GA travelcard? What is SBB doing for biodiversity? What is the Half Fare Travelcard PLUS?

The SBB chatbot draws its knowledge exclusively from SBB information, products and services, and from Swiss public transport services.

SBB is making great efforts to ensure that the chatbot can provide correct and complete answers in the anticipated question area. Nevertheless, incorrect, erroneous, outdated and/or incomplete information may be provided. The chatbot's answers are therefore not legally binding, and SBB does not guarantee that the answers are correct, complete and up-to-date. Use of the chatbot is at your own risk and SBB accepts no liability in this regard.

The SBB Chatbot is multilingual. Any translations are completely automatic and are not checked by SBB's language service.

SBB recommends that you continue to use the alternative contact options to be absolutely sure that your questions are answered correctly: please contact the SBB Contact Center, telephone 0848 44 66 88 (CHF 0.08/min., 24 hours a day), book an individual, personal consultation at the SBB Travel Centre or request an agent in the SBB Chat.

The SBB chatbot may only be used to request information about SBB (see also the information under the heading "Functionality"). In particular, it is not permitted to attempt to access the underlying language model in order to use it for other purposes.

Misuse of SBB Chat that violates any applicable legal provisions, in particular libel, invasion of personal privacy or third-party rights, is not permitted.

Violation of these rules can be penalised under civil or criminal law.

The SBB chatbot is protected by intellectual property rights, including copyrights. It is not permitted to copy, modify or distribute the chatbot (or parts thereof).

The SBB chatbot is based on the Large Language Model technology (LLM technology) from Chat-GPT by OpenAI. The language model is operated in the Microsoft Azure cloud in Europe. This means that the data entered is processed in an isolated environment. Neither Microsoft nor OpenAI use the data to further develop the public Chat GPT model.

SBB only collects the data that is required to provide the Chat service. You can find further information on this in the SBB Privacy Policy.

Not all chat interactions are based on artificial intelligence. In such cases, SBB will use the personal data entered during the chat, but again only for the purpose for which the data was provided. The data processing for this takes place outside the LLMs.

If personal data belonging to third parties is entered into the chat, users are responsible for ensuring that the entry is authorised and complies with the applicable legal provisions.
