Overview of Bern station.

Bern railway station is the second largest in Switzerland It is a through station where trains can run in and out of the station from two sides. The through station has a total of 14 tracks. These are tracks 1 to 10, tracks 12 and 13, and tracks 49 and 50, which are the western extension of tracks 9 and 10 towards Fribourg/Freiburg.

The tracks are on the same level as the city. To access the central area of the station and the city, take the exits to the main underpass in sectors A, B and C. These are located in the north-eastern part of the station towards Olten. The exit handrails are labelled in Braille and relief. The main underpass and the central areas of the station have guidance lines.

Ongoing construction at Bern railway station.

Bern station is currently being expanded. As a result, platforms and access points are frequently closed or restricted. Construction work will continue until 2032.

Welle exit.

The ‘Welle’ exit can be reached via a footbridge. This is above the tracks. The entrances to the Welle footbridge are located in sectors E, F and G in the western part of the station towards Fribourg/Freiburg. The footbridge can be accessed via lifts, stairs and escalators. The exit handrails are labelled in Braille and relief. The Welle footbridge leads directly to Schanzenstrasse at city level and has guidance lines.

RBS station for regional travel.

The RBS station (Bern-Solothurn Regional Railway) is also part of Bern station. The RBS station is a terminus station, with tracks 21, 22, 23 and 24 for the S-Bahn trains S7, S8 and S9, as well as the RE train to Solothurn. It is located one floor down from the station concourse and can be reached via stairs and a ramp.

PostBus station.

The PostBus station is located above the tracks on the roof of the station. It can be reached via lifts. The ‘Bahnhofvorfahrt’ station entrance is also on the way to the PostBus station. Taxis and private cars can stop here briefly to allow picking up and dropping off.

Main underpass.

The central areas of Bern railway station can be reached via the main underpass. On the level of the main underpass (1st underground level), there is the meeting point, the toilet facilities, a waiting room, several take-away restaurants and various shops, as well as access points to the main station entrance, the SBB Travel Centre and the city (all at street level), the RBS station (2nd underground level), the PostBus station and the station entrance (on the 2nd floor).
