The law requires clear identification if you require documentation for doing business by mail, for example, with banks or insurance companies in Switzerland and abroad.
SBB customer identification fulfils the requirements of the Money Laundering Act and the Signature Act.
You will receive a valid official identification once you have shown proof of personal ID with photo.

All natural persons resident or staying in Switzerland may use any of the documents in sections 1-4.
All natural persons resident abroad may use any of the documents in section 1 plus the cross-border commuter permit (G permit).
ID documents must be valid at the time they are presented and must feature a photo of the holder. The documents in section 1 issued by the Swiss authorities and those of the Principality of Liechtenstein are valid up to 5 years after their expiry date.
