Acoustic boxes.

By simply pressing the button, you can receive all the important information about the next train departing from this platform.

Acoustic boxes provide the following information:

  • The train type (e.g. IC61, RE, S3, EC).
  • The departure time (e.g. 14:02).
  • The most important stops along the route (known as the ‘Via’, e.g. Thalwil on the Zurich–Lucerne route).
  • The destination station (e.g. Lucerne).
  • The track information, sometimes with information on the sector of the platform from which the train will be departing (e.g. 12 AB).
  • The 1st and 2nd class sections and the dining car (e.g. 1st class: sectors A and B).

A full announcement may say:

“InterCity 81, 08:38 via Zürich Altstetten, Zurich main station to Olten, 1st class sector B, 2nd class sectors A and C.”

In the event of a disruption or incident, you will also hear the following information:

  • The actual delay (e.g. approx. 6 min. late, cancelled).
  • Any alternative connections (e.g. other route, replacement train, replacement bus).
  • Information on planned or existing construction sites.
