At weekends, during holiday periods and on public holidays, there are many people travelling by train. These tips will make your journey completely relaxed.
Over the Ascension holidays and Pentecost, we will be significantly expanding our service offer for journeys to Ticino. There will be numerous additional trains. In addition, we will be increasing the number of seats available on regular trains. You can find out when these trains run in the online timetable.
Information for international travel: for travel to neighbouring countries, there are different entry and exit requirements in force depending on the country. Please note this information before starting your journey.
You can now look up the occupancy by coach on IC and EC trains online. Simply click on “Show train information” for the connection you wish to take. Please note that EC trains usually have a high occupancy rate because international passengers are already travelling on these trains.
Tip: on days when many people are travelling, we extend our services with additional trains. These are also displayed on the timetable. If you would like an particularly relaxed journey, we recommend that you travel on these trains.
On weekends, additional trains run between Bern, Visp, Brig and Domodossola.
On public holidays, additional trains will be running between Ticino and Zurich/Basel via the Gotthard Base Tunnel. If you are travelling to Italy or other neighbouring countries, please find out about the connections and the current entry regulations in advance.
Over the public holidays, we will be significantly increasing the number of seats available for reservation. We recommend that you reserve your seats for the outward and return journey in good time so that your journey is as relaxed as possible. Seat reservations are occasionally not possible for some connections.
Travel conveniently outside the peak times from 9 a.m., before 4.30 p.m. and after 7 p.m. or even later. Incidentally, this also increases your chance of obtaining a supersaver ticket. With luck you will save up to 70% with one of these.
