Plan your journey.
You can now look up the occupancy by coach on IC and EC trains online. Simply click on “Show train information” for the connection you wish to take. Please note that EC trains usually have a high occupancy rate because international passengers are already travelling on these trains.
Tip: on days when many people are travelling, we extend our services with additional trains. These are also displayed on the timetable. If you would like an particularly relaxed journey, we recommend that you travel on these trains.
On weekends, additional trains run between Bern, Visp, Brig and Domodossola.
On public holidays, additional trains will be running between Ticino and Zurich/Basel via the Gotthard Base Tunnel. If you are travelling to Italy or other neighbouring countries, please find out about the connections and the current entry regulations in advance.
If you want to be sure that you’ll find a seat on the train, we recommend that you reserve your seats for your outward and return journey ahead of time. This is especially the case during the holidays and on public holidays or if you’re travelling with luggage or children. That way, you can travel relaxed. Did you know? You can also reserve seats in the dining car.
Travel conveniently outside the peak times from 9am, before 4.30pm and after 7pm or even later. Incidentally, this also increases your chance of obtaining a supersaver ticket. With luck you will save up to 50% with one of these.
Thanks to our luggage services, you can have your luggage brought from your front door to Zurich or Geneva airport. It can also be delivered to selected hotels and even straight to your holiday accommodation in certain destinations. Of course, we also transport your luggage back home if you so wish. Here’s a tip for you! You can store your luggage in our lockers at the station.
Yes, you can also take your bike on trains yourself. But there are more practical ways to travel without having to carry your bike at all: bicycle transport from station to station or local bike rental.
The SBB Inclusive app is particularly useful in the case of high levels of ambient noise and crowds at the station. The app shows you the next train departures according to the departure or platform display boards. Current announcements playing at the station are also integrated into the app.
Of course, it’s great to have an entire compartment for yourself and your luggage. However, to ensure that as many passengers as possible can sit down, please stow your luggage under or above your seat or between the seats. Alternatively, you can place it in the luggage racks provided.
Switzerland may well be a paradise for mountaineers, but on the train, mountains of luggage can obstruct boarding and alighting and also pose a safety risk. So, please make sure that there is nothing in the way.
Only take what you can carry.
Do not take more luggage than you can carry yourself. Bear in mind that you may also have to lift your bicycle up to attach it to a hook.
This is why we recommend luggage registration and bicycle shipping, where we collect your luggage or bicycle and transport it to your destination.
If you have a reservation for your bicycle, please put it in the appropriate bicycle holder in the coach where your reservation is located. If the first bicycle is placed incorrectly, this can cause quite a bit of confusion if other passengers with bicycle reservations board at the next stop.
For trains which do not require reservations, please place your bicycle in a bicycle holder. If these are all occupied but there is still space in the multifunction zones, you may also park your bicycle there.
