We have prepared instructions on how to connect to SBB Wifi for you to download.

• No, you can only carry out the one-time registration process (valid for 12 months) using a mobile phone number that can receive a text message. This is required by law.
• Unfortunately, if you do not receive a text message from us (which may happen with foreign telephone providers), we cannot offer you an alternative.

• By law, it is only possible to register with a normal mobile phone number and not via a data subscription.
  
• Up to five different devices can be registered with one mobile number. For a notebook, iPad or other device, simply enter your personal mobile phone number in the registration form to receive the code via text message. Then enter the code from the text message into the SBB-FREE registration form on the device (iPad, etc.).

There are several possible reasons for this:

• You cannot access the internet just with the connected SBB-FREE WLAN signal. Internet access is only enabled when confirmed on the SBB-FREE homepage in your web browser (‘Free internet access’). So, before you open any apps, open the web browser first and confirm your access on the SBB-FREE website.
• Despite receiving a weak to medium WLAN signal, it is possible that the mobile device is too far away from the WiFi antenna or hotspot or that the mobile device does not have enough signal to reach this. Switch the WLAN off and on again, and/or move to a different location.
• WiFi reception is not guaranteed throughout the entire station area.
• On international Astoro or Giruno trains, the quality of the WiFi service depends largely on the available mobile network coverage. 

You can take advantage of free WiFi on all Giruno and Astoro trains travelling from Switzerland to Italy or Germany and vice versa.

There is no SBB WiFi at Zurich Airport because it has its own free WiFi and it manages all wireless activity within its buildings.

• To protect children and young people (free internet access) and for safety reasons, various websites in the porn, racism and malware categories are blocked.
• It is possible that websites are blocked by mistake by the provider’s DNS filter - see also domain.opendns.com. If this is the case, please send us the link via the form in the blocked website message or use the contact form. We will check the website and unblock it if it is inoffensive.

• To use the service, you must personally enable each mobile device (required by law) – this takes just two clicks: via a text message and an access code.
• After this one-time registration, you can use SBB WiFi at all equipped stations without registering again.
• Your registration must be renewed every 12 months.

• Without an encrypted WLAN signal, access can easily be gained by any interested parties.
• Background: as with access to all other public guest WiFi services around the world, data transmission is unencrypted on SBB WiFi. You must therefore treat the SBB hotspot as the ‘internet’ and take all necessary security measures (e.g. encrypt websites involving sensitive data, use VPN connections).

• Yes, because otherwise you are still liable for your telephone number.
• Fill in the contact form asking for your registered devices with that telephone number to be deleted.
• Unfortunately, SBB can only delete all devices, not individual ones. But it is quick and easy to register the devices again.
