SBB and the railways in the neighbouring countries provide international self-service loading of bicycles. You will need an international bike ticket. Reservations are also obligatory.

Please note:

• Availability of bike transport on trains to Europe is limited or, in some cases, not available.
• For cross-border services from Switzerland, you can buy our international bike ticket (including the reservation) in Switzerland before you leave.
• For services within your destination country, you will in some cases need to buy a separate bike ticket when you arrive.

You can check the route you wish to travel. You can find international connections that permit you to take your bike on the train (excluding Italy) by visiting the route planer (hafas.bene-system.com) and selecting the number of bicycles from the drop-down menu ‘carriage of Bicycles required’.

In France, bicycles and trailers can be transported free of charge on regional trains, provided there is enough space. Tandem bicycles can only be transported in trains with luggage vans.

SBB cannot guarantee that bikes in bags can also be transported on foreign trains. On night trains for example, bikes in bags cannot be carried unless information to the contrary is provided.

Bikes may also not be stowed in spaces where they inconvenience other passengers and/or train crew. Bikes must not block passageways.

Please note the special maximum dimensions for bike transport covers for the following countries and trains (not a complete list):

• Germany: max. length 150cm, max. circumference 300cm, max. weight 31.5kg.
• TGV Lyria: max. length 120cm, max. width 90cm.
• Italy: max. length 110cm, max. width 80cm, max. height 40cm.

One acceptable transport cover is the TranZbag.

E-bikes are generally treated in the same way as normal bikes by international railways.

Important:

• You may take e-bikes with max. 25km/h pedal support.
• The battery must remained fixed on the e-bike throughout the journey.
• You may not remove it or charge it.
• You cannot transport an additional battery (in most countries, batteries over 100Wh are classed as dangerous goods).
