  Non-accompanied bicycle by train

  I would like to send a non-accompanied bicycle by train from Lausanne to Chur. It will be collected at Chur station by a friend. Is this possible and if so, how to manage the process? Thank you.

  2 day bike passes or one for carrying cargo bikes on a train

  We have an UrbanArrow Family Cargo Bike, which I like to occasionally take out of Zürich for some bike touring with my 5 year old son. I know that these bikes, as well as other oversized ones with length over 2m, are only allowed on RE and S-bahn trains, so I plan my trip legs accordingly. My question is in the number of bike passes I should purchase, as I recently was ticket controlled on S-bahn and told by the lady that I should have two bike passes, as the bike is big enough to be counted as 2 separate bicycles. I can’t find proof of that statement in the policy online. The best match that I found so far is in “Help with bike reservations and transport in Switzerland / Buying bike tickets / What Ticket do I need for a tandem?”, which simply states that I should have a ticket, nothing about having two. Could someone please confirm that it is indeed a documented policy? Thanks,

  Hello SviatLink opens in new window. Ticket inspectors perform the ticket check based on Tarif 600 and subsequent tariffs, which are the official tariffs for public transportation in Switzerland. They are accessible to the public / customers. It is true, oversized bicycles required two tickets. However, this rule has been lifted and now, special bicycles only need 1 ticket as well. On the other hand, the transportation on SBB trains is only allowed on S and RE trains. This restriction is unchanged. Kind regards,

  Station-to-station luggage transfer VS airport luggage transfer?

  Hello!
  I need to transfer 2-3 suitcases and a bike from Renens VD to Zurich airport. From what I see the airport luggage transfer option (Flight Luggage https://www.sbb.ch/en/tickets-offers/reservation-luggage/flight-luggage/zurich-airport/zurich-from-station.html) allows you to drop off luggage at specific stations (Lausanne) and pick it up the next day at the SBB counter in the Zurich airport. This costs 24 chf/ bag and does not allow bikes. The station-to-station SBB luggage transfer allows you to drop off luggage at many more stations (including Renens) and also pick up at the SBB counter in the Zurich airport. It allows bikes and only costs 12 chf/bag and 20 chf for bikes. It takes 2 days. Am I missing something here? Is it only the difference between transfer times or is there something else that distinguishes the services? Thank you!

On the other hand, the station-to-station SBB luggage transfer service allows you to drop off your luggage, including bikes, at many more stations, including Renens, and pick it up at the SBB counter in Zurich airport. This service takes 2 days and costs 12 CHF per bag and 20 CHF for bikes. The main difference between the two services is the availability of bike transportation and the cost per bag. The transfer time is the same for both services. Please note that the station-to-station service is more suitable for your needs as it allows for the transportation of bikes and is more cost-effective for luggage transfer.
