  • Group ticket validity

Our 15-person group is traveling from Zurich Airport to Neuchâtel. We might be able to leave even before 11 but because of possible flight delays, I’m about to purchase a group ticket leaving at 12:08 with only a 9-minute train change immediately at Zurich Hbf. I understand that group tickets are valid for a given time after the departure but not before it - so does this mean that we cannot take an earlier train from Flughafen to Hbf - just to make the change of trains a little less hasty?

  • Confused by Group discount

Hi, we are 12 people travelling from Basel to Zermatt, but I am wondering what the point of the discount for group travel is? You only get the 30% group discount on a ‘Point-to-Point’ ticket. 30% of the point-to-point fare for this journey (CHF126) is CHF88. But it’s always going to be cheaper to buy individual day passes at around CHF70. It also gives more flexibility since Saver day passes are not fixed to a specific train or seat reservation. Please correct me if I am missing something here - but why would anyone use the group discount for a journey like this? It’s frustrating too, because we were told we had to wait until 2 months before travel in order to make a group reservation. But we could’ve just bought individual Saver day passes weeks ago, when I think they were a little cheaper (have they increased recently)?

  • Really confused with Swiss Travel Pass

    Hello,
My wife and I are traveling to Switzerland early March. We are arriving to Geneva, spending one night there, then train to Zermatt, one night there, then Glacier Express to St. Moritz, one night there and then train from St. Moritz to Zurich for the last night and then fly out. We already purchased the 1st class seat reservation for the Glacier express, and we also bought the 1st Class Swiss Travel Pass. I understand that for the other trains besides Glacier we should not need reservations, but I would really like to play it on the safe side and reserve. Now.. when I go into the SBB site for example and request the trip from Geneva to Zermatt on the 9:00 train, it tells me to either pay a fee, or to select that I have a GA card. There is no option that says “select Swiss Travel Pass” and then take out the cost out, not a “reserve seat only”. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks!
