• You will need a valid SwissPass login with which you have logged in to the app.
• You will need a functioning smartphone with a touchscreen and operating system Apple iOS 15 (or above) or Android 8 (or above).
• Your smartphone must have a working SIM card that enables the transmission of data. We recommend using EasyRide on a smartphone contract with a data flat rate.
• You will need a valid payment method. You can choose between monthly invoice, Twint, Reka, a credit card or a PostFinance Pay.
• If the device has been jailbroken or rooted, EasyRide will not work.

When you check in, you have a few seconds to check out again straight away. If you never actually leave the first stop on a journey, you won’t be charged for a ticket either.

Based on the journeys you take, EasyRide calculates the best available combination of tickets that can be sold to you in accordance with the fare provisions. 

This means the following maximum daily costs for journeys within Switzerland’s GA Travelcard area of validity with EasyRide apply:

• With a Half Fare Travelcard: the price of the ‘Day Pass for the Half Fare Travelcard’ in 2nd or 1st class.
• Without a Half Fare Travelcard: no upper limit, you will be charged the full price for the tickets.

If you are also travelling with a dog or a bicycle, the most you will pay for a day will be:

• With a dog: the price of a Day Pass for Dogs.
• With a bicycle: the price of a Bike Day Pass.

For journeys within a fare network.

A Day Pass for the relevant fare network will be charged, taking into account the following information:

• Zones travelled.
• Class used.
• Any current travelcard benefits stored in the SBB Mobile app that are creditable for EasyRide.

EasyRide will not take into account Saver Day Passes, seasonal special offer Day Passes or regional special offer day passes. 

Please buy these tickets via the usual channels: in the SBB Mobile app, online at SBB.ch or in-person at the relevant points of sale.

EasyRide and Fairtiq are both solutions for automated ticketing on public transport in Switzerland. EasyRide is almost identical to Fairtiq in terms of ease of use, journey recording and price calculation.

Common features of all solutions are: 

• Valid on the entire EasyRide network map in Switzerland. 
• All three solutions determine the price of the journey according to the applicable fare regulations for automatic ticketing.  

Thanks to the SwissPass login, your travelcards on the SwissPass are included for journeys with EasyRide and the zone upgrade is determined automatically. You can find information on restrictions under the question ‘Does EasyRide take my travelcards into account?’

Advantages of EasyRide compared with the other solutions: 

• With EasyRide, you can pay for your journeys via a monthly invoice.

The Fairtiq app is a purely ticketing app. As EasyRide is integrated into the SBB Mobile app, you benefit from an all-inclusive public transport service: 

• Easy operability for timetable queries with the touch timetable.
• Real-time timetable information with change assistance and information about delays.
• Purchase of Point-to-Point tickets from A to B.
• Purchase of supersaver tickets and Saver Day Passes.

SBB Mobile is the perfect companion for journeys by public transport in Switzerland. For example, you can buy a supersaver ticket when you are planning journeys in advance, or you can check in with EasyRide for spontaneous trips by public transport then just get on and go – and you have all relevant timetable information to hand at all times. All in one app!   

EasyRide can be used on the entire EasyRide network in Switzerland, including boats.

As soon as you have arrived at your destination and alighted from the vehicle, you need to check out (by swiping from right to left). The app records your route and then works out the best ticket for you. The cost of this ticket will be charged automatically to your stored payment method.

If you are travelling with a dog or a bicycle, you can buy digital tickets for dogs and bicycles using EasyRide. To do so, register the dogs or bicycles which will be coming with you in the ‘EasyRide’ tab using the pencil icon next to your name. 

Up to nine dogs and / or bicycles can be registered per customer.

No. You can purchase Supersaver Tickets via the timetable in the SBB Mobile / Preview app or online at SBB.ch. However, existing Supersaver Tickets will be billed automatically in EasyRide insofar as the trip recorded with EasyRide partially or completely overlaps with the Supersaver Ticket.

When you are checked in, EasyRide receives and sends approximately 1MB per hour.

No. At present, EasyRide can only be used for the main user who is logged in, in accordance with the general terms of business. It is not possible to register more co-passengers. Please buy tickets for your companions in the usual way via the app. 

Travelcards taken into account.

Yes. EasyRide takes into account Travelcards linked with your SwissPass and applies them to any relevant journeys in your travelcard area.

From 1 January 2025, EasyRide no longer takes into account travelcards that are manually added.

The exceptions to this are:

• Half Fare Travelcard.
• TNW U Travelcard (Northwestern Switzerland fare network).
• LIEmobil.

If you added these travelcards manually, you must also show the manually entered travelcard to the inspector during a ticket inspection in addition to the EasyRide ticket.

Travelcards not taken into account.

The following travelcards are NOT taken into account by EasyRide. Please purchase your zone upgrade separately in the app, at a ticket machine or at a public transport point of sale:

• Travelcards not linked to the SwissPass (manually added travelcards, apart from the exceptions mentioned above).
• Local network travelcards ZVV.
  
• Transreno travelcards.
• Léman Pass travelcards.
• U-Abo (Freizeit) travelcard.
• Point-to-point Travelcards.
• Modular Travelcards.
• Dog Pass.
• Annual bike passes.
• Junior Travelcard and Children’s Co-Travelcard.
• Transferable season tickets.

EasyRide needs your tracking data (GPS) in order to record your journey correctly and charge you the right price for the route you are travelling. If you close the app or leave it running in the background during your journey, the travel tracking function will only work if your tracking service is always activated.

EasyRide pinpoints your location:

• each time you open the app to find your nearest station. For a smooth check-in at the start of your journey.
• when you are checked in during your journey in order to record the route you’re travelling.
• a few minutes after you check out so that it can calculate the right price based on your destination.

Please make sure that your location services are set up as followed in your smartphone settings: 

• For iPhones: set the permission to “Always”.
• For Android smartphones:
  • set the permission to “Allow only while in use” and “Precise location”.
  • activate Bluetooth and WiFi scanning for SBB Mobile.
  • Enable “Physical activity” for SBB Mobile.

For EasyRide to function properly, Bluetooth (or the function ‘Nearby devices’) must remain activated for your entire journey, from check-in to the completion of check-out. The app uses Bluetooth signals (beacons) together with location data to reliably recognise when you board a transport service and when you alight again. Beacons installed at stations with poor GPS reception can also be detected and enable faster check-in and check-out.

If you turn off Bluetooth, your journey may not be recorded correctly, resulting in the incorrect calculation of your fare.

The following offers are not (or not yet) available when using EasyRide. You can purchase them via the timetable in the SBB Mobile / Preview app or at SBB.ch: 

• Supersaver tickets and Saver Day Passes
• Bike space and seat reservations
• Zurich Transport Network 24-hour Day Pass (as a replacement, ZVV has introduced the Calendar Day Day Pass, which will be recognised in EasyRide)

Yes, passengers under 16 years old can use EasyRide and automatically travel at the discounted price.

If you have an SBB Business customers agreement which is linked to your private SwissPass login on SBB Mobile, EasyRide cannot be used for business travel at present. Please buy tickets in the usual way via the app. 

If you use EasyRide without an SBB Business customers agreement with your business payment card, the receipt will be sent to your billing address. 

Please note: EasyRide charges all journeys to the last payment method used, on the day. It is not possible to switch between private and business payment cards for different journeys on the same day. 

When you register for EasyRide, your SwissPass personal data and the stored payment data are saved. During the journey, the app records your location and activity data in order to determine the route taken. This is done by means of movement sensors and the public transport Bluetooth beacons aboard the transport service as well as at some stations.

The recording of your travel data starts when you check in to EasyRide and ends a few minutes after completion of the check-out process.

Your data will never be passed on to third parties and will be stored in accordance with Swiss data protection regulations.

EasyRide automatically detects that your chosen mode of transport only offers 2nd class and charges you for a 2nd class ticket, even if you selected 1st class.

You need to start EasyRide and check in immediately before you start your journey and before you board the vehicle. Your mobile phone will transmit your log-in time and location to the system and display a confirmation that you have checked in successfully. Once you have checked in, you are entitled to travel on public transport within the EasyRide area of validity. More detailed information is available under the question “Where can I use EasyRide?”.

Please note that dogs and bicycles must be registered before check-in.

To check in, start up EasyRide and check in by swiping from left to right on the start button on the display. Successful check-in is confirmed in the SBB Mobile app when the timer begins and the picture starts moving. The EasyRide ticket can be found in the “Tickets & Travelcards” tab.

Please be aware that the check-in was not successful if the EasyRide ticket (barcode ticket) is not displayed in the “Tickets & Travelcards” tab after you check in. If this happens, you do not have a valid ticket for your journey on public transport.

As soon as you have checked in successfully, you can use your EasyRide ticket on public transport in the EasyRide area of validity. You must complete the check-in with EasyRide before the departure of the means of transport.

• You may have been automatically connected to a public WiFi network that requires you to register before you can use it (e.g. SBB-FREE, PostAuto). The easiest way to avoid this problem is to switch off WiFi on your device or to ignore the WiFi network in question.
• Please make sure that the WiFi and Bluetooth scanning settings (if available on your device) are activated. You can activate these options in your phone’s settings via ‘Settings’ -> ‘Location’ -> ‘Improve accuracy’ (may vary depending on manufacturer and Android version).
• For subterranean stops (such as Lucerne, Allmend/Messe, all underground platforms at Zurich main station, Zurich Airport, Geneva Airport and any other underground stations), please check in while you are still on the ground floor as the geolocation may be insufficient underground.
• Power saving mode and/or battery optimisation on the user device can severely affect the reception of precise location data. This data is essential for recording the journey accurately. Please turn off these settings when using EasyRide.

Location access.

iOS.

Location access must be set to ‘Always’ to use EasyRide – otherwise it is not possible to record the journey accurately. You can configure this setting in your iPhone’s app settings. For iOS 14 and above, please also activate the “Precise location” option.

Android.

Set the permission to “Allow only while in use” and “Precise location”. In addition, activate Bluetooth and WiFi scanning and enable “Physical activity” for SBB Mobile.

Motion & Fitness (iOS) / Physical activity (Android).

iOS.

‘Motion & Fitness’ must be activated while using EasyRide. You can activate this in your iPhone’s app settings.

Android.

Please note that the physical activity permission is enabled for SBB Mobile from Android 10 on. You can activate this in the app permissions on your Android smartphone.

Bluetooth.

Bluetooth must be activated and enabled. You can activate the function in the app settings of your smartphone. 

If you can’t check in via EasyRide due to technical reasons, you need to buy a ticket in some other way, e.g. via the usual purchase process in the app or at a ticket machine.

As tickets are compulsory on Swiss public transport, travelling on a public transport service without checking in means you are travelling without a valid ticket. The ticket inspectors will record this incident and issue the ‘Travel without a valid ticket’ or ‘Travel with a partially valid ticket’ form. 

If you change vehicle without this involving a major break in the journey, there’s no need to check out. SBB Mobile will detect the change you have made and automatically work out the best ticket for you.

If your smartphone isn’t working properly or is unable to transmit data during your journey for a reason that is within your control (e.g. it’s in flight mode, power saving mode, battery optimization, out of charge or is faulty, or location services have been turned off, etc.), this means that you are not meeting the conditions for using EasyRide and you are therefore not in possession of a valid ticket. If your smartphone doesn’t work properly on a temporary basis, the system will continue to run on the server in the background for a certain period of time.

No, because this may prevent your journey from being recorded properly. We reserve the right to ban users if they are repeat offenders in this regard.

No. If Bluetooth is deactivated during the journey, you will be notified and check-out will not be possible. To check out properly, reactivate Bluetooth. 

If you turn off Bluetooth, your journey may not be recorded correctly, resulting in the incorrect calculation of your fare.

By opting to use EasyRide, you are responsible for ensuring that your smartphone has sufficient charge throughout the entire journey.

Yes, during the journey you can make as many changes as you like, whenever you like.

Your smartphone’s location services are used to help work out the route you have travelled, so these must always be switched on while the app is in use. If location services are turned off, the app will issue an error message and the ticket can no longer be displayed. This means that you are travelling without a valid ticket and you may be fined by a ticket inspector.

The check-out warning uses the movement sensors in modern smartphones to help you to remember to check out after you have completed your journey. As soon as you are no longer standing or sitting in the vehicle and are walking instead, the app will detect by your movements that you are most likely no longer in the vehicle and it will remind you to check out. For this purpose, you have to activate movement and fitness data on your device and authorise notifications. Please note that we are unfortunately unable to guarantee that the check-out warning will work properly. It is intended as a service to help you remember to check out. We are currently working to improve the reliability of the warning, but it is always your responsibility to make sure that you check out at the right time.

Important: Google Pixel, Huawei and Xiaomi smartphones in some cases have an energy saving mode which deactivates the location services required to track your journey. Check your device settings to make sure the SBB Mobile app is a protected app.

For example, Huawei Mate 9: System Settings > Power Saving > Protected App > turn the service on for SBB Mobile.

Close the app completely. Then reopen the app and check out. If that doesn’t work either, turn on flight mode for at least five minutes. You will then be checked out automatically from the location you were in when you turned on flight mode.

Alternatively, for Android smartphones, we recommend deleting the cache or data of the SBB app. To do so, go to the Smartphone settings under ‘Apps’, ‘SBB Mobile’, ‘Storage’ and then ‘Clear cache’.

Are some of your journeys often calculated incorrectly? Or have you received a message asking you to adjust your location settings? Do you find you keep on having difficulties checking in at certain stations?

To correctly record your journey, SBB Mobile needs access to your Bluetooth and your location data.

However, some settings on your device may restrict or even prevent access to your location data. This means that recording and completing some of your trips may not be possible.

To locate you correctly, your phone uses WiFi and Bluetooth technology. To determine your location as accurately as possible and to reliably recognise when you board a transport service and when you alight again, the app uses Bluetooth signals (beacons) and location data. Beacons installed at stations with poor GPS reception can also be detected and enable faster check-in and check-out. WiFi is optional, but it can also help to improve location recording. For this to work, it is not necessary to be connected to a WiFi network.

In general, we recommend the following measures before we look in detail at each device type:

• Turn off power saving mode.
• Turn off flight mode. 
• Turn on location services. 
• Make sure your location settings are set to ‘High accuracy’ / ‘Exact location’.
• Make sure that the exchange of data between your device and SBB Mobile is not negatively influenced by any other app (virus scanner, VPN, proxy server, ad blocker, etc.) or by battery optimisation.
• Do not close the SBB Mobile app until your journey has been calculated correctly.

Please note that if you abort SBB Mobile and EasyRide (when the app is closed in the Task Manager or by swiping it in the list of running apps) immediately after your journey is completed, this can affect the fare paid if SBB Mobile did not have enough time to locate you correctly.

The location data on iPhones (iOS) is generally good. To resolve problems, we recommend reinstalling the app.

1. Go to device settings > Apps > SBB Mobile. Make sure that the ‘Remove permission if app is unused’ option is deactivated.
2. Go to device settings > Apps > SBB Mobile > Battery. Select ‘Unrestricted’.
3. Go to Device Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Background Usage Limits. Make sure that SBB Mobile is not sleeping or deep sleeping. Add SBB Mobile to ‘Never auto sleeping apps’.
4. Go to Device Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Background Usage Limits > Three-Dot Menu (top right) > Adaptive Battery. Make sure that ‘Adaptive Battery’ is turned off.

Notes.

• If ‘Adaptive Battery’ is activated, SBB Mobile can usually no longer use location data once the app is no longer open on the screen. The lower the battery, the poorer the tracking quality.
• Some keywords may change following an operating system update. 

Turn off battery saving mode including power saving mode, battery management or third-party applications.
