No, there is no guarantee that a free parking space will be available, even if you have a one-month or one-year permit or purchased the parking ticket in advance.
Yes. At some locations, you can reserve a parking space in advance and secure a parking spot early. The usual parking fee must be paid in addition to the reservation. This can be done when you make a reservation or via the usual sales channels.
P+Rail one-month or one-year permits can only be purchased if you hold a GA Travelcard or a monthly or annual public transport travelcard valid at the station in question (Point-to-Point Travelcard, Regional Travelcard, Modular Travelcard).
Depending on how busy the facility is, a minimum price or minimum distance can also be defined for this.
In order to avoid exceeding capacity, there may be waiting lists or other restrictions for P+Rail facilities with high demand (for example, a quota system, stopping sales during construction work, etc.). Please contact us promptly regarding the availability of one-month or one-year permits for your desired station. Likewise, the same applies if you would like to renew your permit.
One-month and one-year permits can be purchased up to two months in advance of the first day of validity. This is advantageous, especially for P+Rail facilities with high demand.
You can enter two different registration numbers on your P+Rail Pass – so for example, one for your second car. You cannot change the car number(s) while the permit is valid. If you need to change your number, we offer an exchange (pro rata refund and new purchase).

P+Rail stands for ‘Park and Rail’.
P+Rail facilities – also sometimes called P+Ride – refer to car parks located directly at railway stations. The name was chosen because these parking facilities are predominantly used by rail customers who park their private motor vehicles and then travel by train. The P+Rail app was named after this original area of application.

P+Rail canton of Vaud.
Introduction.
From 5 May 2026, when issuing passes for particularly busy car parks, priority will be given to customers whose homes are difficult to reach by public transport or are too far from the station to reach on foot or by bike. This policy forms part of the Canton of Vaud’s strategy to encourage combined mobility, which aims to promote and optimise the use of P+Rail spaces.
On this page, you will find information on how the allocation process works, the criteria used and the options available to you should you have any questions or wish to appeal.
Important note:
Even when there are no more passes are available, vacant spaces may still be used for daily parking. Daily parking is not subject to the priority criteria set out below.
Applications are prioritised based on the following two criteria:
Access to public transport from the customer’s home: priority level is assessed based on the quality of services within a 300-metre radius of the customer’s home and on frequency during peak hours.
Distance between the customer’s home and the P+Rail site: a distance of between 1 and 5km results in a high priority for the application.
The following additional rules apply:
People with reduced mobility hold a valid proof of status (a card) and are entitled to free parking spaces. They do not require a pass and may use the spaces regardless of the applicable criteria.
Each P+Rail site has an exclusion zone, i.e. a distance beyond which the applicant cannot be allocated a pass for the P+Rail site in question. In this case, they must give preference to a P+Rail site closer to their home. The exclusion zone is generally 10km. It applies to all existing P+Rail sites and may be extended for certain P+R sites serving outlying areas where there is no P+Rail site within 10km.
Decisions are made by an algorithm that calculates the priority level based on the criteria outlined above, as well as the customer’s home address and availability at the chosen P+Rail site.
At particularly popular sites, available pass spaces are gradually allocated to the highest-priority applications. If there are currently no spaces available for your priority category, you will unfortunately not be able to purchase a pass.
The following alternatives are available to you:
Apply for another P+Rail site: if there are other sites near your home. Spaces for your priority category may still be available there.
Purchase a day ticket: you can park at this site or any other site without a pass by purchasing a day ticket. Only passes are subject to capacity restrictions. Day tickets are always available, provided there are still free parking spaces.
Only the home address registered on the customer’s SwissPass account is used to assess the application. This is sent in anonymised form to the system managed by the Canton of Vaud and is processed there in order to assess the application. No sensitive personal data is processed. No addresses are stored.
Yes.
If you disagree with a decision, you can:
explain your point of view;
request a review of the decision by a human assessor.
To do so, please contact the SBB Contact Center via the contact form under ‘Claims and complaints’ or by telephone (tel. 0848 44 66 88; CHF 0.08/min).
There are two possible reasons: either the site’s pass quota has been exhausted (this quota is deliberately limited to ensure sufficient spaces for daily parking), or your application cannot be considered due to the priority criteria in force in the canton of Vaud (quality of public transport links and distance between your home and the site).
The allocation rules apply equally to new subscriptions and renewals: either the site’s pass quota has been exhausted (this quota is deliberately limited to ensure sufficient spaces for daily parking), or your application cannot be considered due to the priority criteria in force in the canton of Vaud (place of residence and distance between your home and the site).
Quotas ensure that there are enough spaces available for daily and occasional parking and allow capacity to be used in a targeted manner.
Prioritisation / How it works.
As described above, passes are allocated according to priority criteria, in particular the public transport links to your place of residence and your distance from the site. These factors determine your priority level, and this is used to allocate available passes.
Prioritisation is based on public transport links from your place of residence and the distance between your home and the requested P+Rail site. The reference point for these criteria is the home address registered on your SwissPass.
P+Rail sites are designed to facilitate connections to public transport near customers’ homes.
Alternatives.
Yes, you can submit an application for another P+Rail site. The same allocation rules and priority criteria apply to each site in the canton of Vaud. The decision may therefore differ from one site to another based on availability.
Yes, even without a pass, you can use spaces by purchasing a day or hourly ticket. These spaces remain available regardless of the pass quota.
Data and data protection.
The home address registered on your SwissPass is used to assess the public transport links to your place of residence and your distance from the P+Rail site. This data is used exclusively for pass allocation.
Your data is not stored. Details on the use of your data can be found in the SBB and Canton of Vaud data protection provisions.
Supplementary General Terms and Conditions for P+Rail.
1.1. Scope of application and validity.
These specific provisions apply to the booking of parking spaces at SBB P+Rail sites and those of third-party providers located within the canton of Vaud. They supplement the basic P+Rail General Terms and Conditions.
By making a firm booking for a pass via one of the sales channels, customers declare that they accept these GTC.
1.2 Legal basis.
These specific provisions derive from the Canton of Vaud’s strategy for passenger transport interfaces (hereinafter ‘cantonal strategy’), which is based on two explanatory remarks and related draft decrees adopted by the Vaud Parliament in 2019 and 2025.
1.3 Specific provisions regarding the terms and conditions for purchasing P+Rail passes.
In the canton of Vaud, priority criteria apply to all applications to allocate or renew monthly or annual passes in accordance with the cantonal strategy.
The priority given to an application is determined by two criteria:
The quality of public transport services to the applicant’s homeThe applicant’s home is defined as the address provided on their SwissPass account., defined as the average frequency of services during weekday peak hours (Mon–Fri from 6 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm) at stops located within a 300-metre radius of the home, as per the timetable.
The distance between the applicant’s homeThe applicant’s home is defined as the address provided on their SwissPass account. and the relevant P+Rail site, defined as the straight-line distance between the two locations.
Based on these two criteria, the application is assigned a priority level according to the table below, which is set out in the applicable cantonal strategy.
Image legend:
Reading example for the two highest priority levels 1 and 2.
Priority 1: You are Priority Level 1 if you live between 1 and 5 km from the P+Rail facility in question and there is no public transport stop within 300 metres of your home.
Priority 2: You are Priority Level 2 if you live between 1 and 5 km from the P+Rail facility in question and the public transport connections at a stop within 300 metres of your home run less frequently than every 30 minutes.
Level 1 in the table indicates the highest priority for an application, and level 5 the lowest priority. The more level 1 requests there are for a P+Rail site, the lower the likelihood of a pass being allocated for an application of a lower level, and so on in descending order of priority.
The following additional rules apply:
People with disabilities benefit from access facilities in accordance with section 1.4 of the basic P+Rail General Terms and Conditions;
Each P+Rail site has an exclusion zone, i.e. a distance (criterion 2) beyond which the applicant cannot be allocated a pass for the P+Rail site in question. In this case, they must give preference to a P+Rail site closer to their home. The exclusion zone is generally 10km. It applies to all existing P+Rail sites and may be extended for certain P+R sites serving outlying areas where there is no P+Rail site within 10km.
1.4 Data protection and automated processing.
In order to verify eligibility for the allocation of a pass in accordance with the cantonal strategy, the applicant’s home address, as declared in SwissPass, is sent to the cantonal automated application processing system. The final decision regarding the allocation of a pass is made via this automated process.
The decision may be reviewed by a human assessor upon receipt of a substantiated request. Requests should be submitted to the SBB Contact Center via the contact form under ‘Claims and complaints’ or by telephone (tel. 0848 44 66 88; CHF 0.08/min).
Hello victoria123Link opens in new window. You can purchase a 7 days ticket through the SBB P+Rail app (if the location is available in the app) and re-purchase it after 7 days again on the app. It seems like you don’t have any other option regarding the busses on the way back, but I agree with @RolandPLink opens in new window. regarding the high costs. Maybe a taxi for the way back home is cheaper than booking for more than 7 days or maybe someone you know could pick you up at the train station with a car. Anyways, I wish you a nice trip and a lovely day. Kind regards, VlaznimA.
Is the Park&Rail suspended along with the GA pass?
I have a GeneralAbonnement pass, and I recently bought a Park&Rail with one year validity. I currently suspended my GA because I’m temporarily in home office. Is the Park&Rail still valid? Or is it suspended along with the GA?
Hello JaloLink opens in new window. Thank you for your query. The P+Rail subscription is still valid. There is no possibility to deposit it. I wish you a nice day. Kind regards, AferditaH
I wish to take the train from Zweilütschinen via Wengen to Jungfraujoch and coming back through Grindelwald, so I would need to park my car at Zweilütschinen Station. Is there parking provided there and how much is it? I was checking on the website but couldn’t find the information. Please advise, thank you!
Hello BronxCruzLink opens in new window. Thank you for your query. No, there is no P+Rail car park in Zweilütschinen. I wish you a nice day. Kind regards, AferditaH
