Buy tickets for yourself and for your dog in the SBB Mobile app.

If you would like to buy the ticket for your dog together with your own ticket, proceed as follows:

1. Enter the route and select your preferred connection.
2. Select ‘Tickets from CHF …’.
3. 3. Tap on ‘Edit passengers’ (pencil symbol).
4. Tap the plus sign at the bottom next to the ‘dog’ symbol once (or several times if you want to take several dogs with you).
5. Tap on ‘Accept’.
6. The dog ticket will now appear together with your ticket in the overview and you can buy the tickets together.

Purchase in the SBB Mobile app for your dog (if you already have a ticket for yourself).

Enter the route and select your preferred connection.

6. The dog ticket will now appear in the overview and you can buy the ticket.

Here’s how it works:

1. Enter the route into the timetable and select your preferred connection.
2. When entering the passengers, click on ‘Process passengers | reductions’.
3. Enter the number of dog tickets you would like in the field following the ‘Discount cards’ field.
4. If you do not need a ticket for yourself, check the box next to the text ‘Passenger already has a valid ticket or other valid travel document’.
5. Click on ‘Accept’.
6. Choose between ‘single journey’ and ‘single and return journey’.
7. Go to the check-out and purchase the ticket with your preferred payment method.

Online on SBB.ch without a login.

Here’s how it works:

1. Enter the route into the timetable and select your preferred connection.
2. When entering passengers, click on ‘Add passenger’ and add the name of the passenger/co-passenger. At the same time, enter the number of dog tickets you would like in the field following the ‘Discount cards’ field.
3. Enter the number of dog tickets you would like in the field following the ‘Discount cards’ field.
4. If you do not need a ticket for yourself, check the box next to the text ‘Passenger already has a valid ticket or other valid travel document’.
5. Click on ‘Accept’.
6. Choose between ‘single journey’ and ‘single and return journey’.
7. Go to the check-out and purchase the ticket with your chosen payment method.

• Small dogs (with a wither height of up to 30cm max.) can be carried free of charge in a suitable animal-friendly container (e.g. a basket or pouch). 
• If you place the transport container on a seat, you need to buy a 2nd class ticket at half price or a Day Pass for Dogs.
• If you are travelling with a dog without a container, the dog must sit under your seat so that the passage is not blocked for other passengers. Buy a half-price 2nd class ticket or a Day Pass for Dogs for your dog.

If you hold a valid ticket, your dog can enjoy a day’s unlimited travel with the Day Pass for dogs for 25 CHF. The Day Pass for dogs is valid on trains, boats, PostBus routes and tram and bus routes in most cities and agglomerations. 

The Day Pass for Dogs can be purchased conveniently online at SBB.ch, via a mobile device using the app, from ticket machines or at a public transport point of sale.

The Day Pass for Dogs is automatically offered during purchase on SBB.ch or via SBB Mobile (see the question ‘How do I buy a dog ticket?’) as soon as the price for the dog ticket reaches the amount of CHF 25.

Alternatively, you can buy the Day Pass for Dogs directly online at SBB.ch or via the SBB Mobile app in the ‘Shop & Services’ tab.

If your dog regularly travels with you on the train, it's worth getting the Yearly Dog Pass for CHF 350 or the Monthly Dog Pass for CHF 60. The Yearly Dog Pass or Monthly Dog Pass is issued to an accompanying person and stored on their personal SwissPass. The dog will not receive its own SwissPass.

The Yearly Dog Pass or Monthly Dog Pass is integrated into the accompanying person's own SwissPass. This means you can take other dogs with you too. However, if other people are taking your dog with them, each companion must purchase their own Dog Pass.

If you leave your SwissPass holding the the Yearly Dog Pass or Monthly Dog Pass at home, we can issue you a card with temporary validity for two days at any ticket counter if you show your official ID. A charge of 5 CHF is made. The temporary card can also be shown in the mobile app (requirement: login with a linked customer number).

You will receive your chosen Dog Pass on your own SwissPass.

If you do not already own a SwissPass, you can order one by phone via the SBB Contact Center on 0848 44 66 88 (CHF 0.08/min.) or at a staffed public transport point of sale. Important: please note that when ordering a SwissPass for the first time, you must have an up-to-date, high-quality passport photo. When purchasing for the first time, your personal details will be checked using your ID or passport and you will be newly registered as a customer. This cannot be done over the phone via the Contact Center. You can also send the photo by text message or upload it online.

If you already have a SwissPass – for example for your Half Fare or GA Travelcard – you can get the Dog Pass at any staffed point of sale, or conveniently online or at the ticket machine.

You can renew your Yearly or Monthly Dog Pass at a staffed point of sale, at a ticket machine or by calling the SBB Contact Center on +41 848 44 66 88 (CHF 0.08/min.) (credit card required). You can also conveniently renew the Yearly Dog Pass online. To renew online, follow the link you received in the renewal e-mail.

No, the pass is not renewed automatically. You will be notified of the renewal options 60 days before your travelcard expires (either by text or e-mail, depending on your settings on swisspass.chLink opens in new window.).

If you no longer need the Dog Pass, and you have not reached the end of the second month of its validity, you can return it.

• Up to the end of the first month of its validity, you receive 50% of the purchase cost in return.
• Up to the end of the second month of its validity you receive 25% of the purchase cost in return. 
• Refunds are not possible after this.

If you no longer need the Monthly Dog Pass and you have not yet reached the end of the seventh day of the travelcard month, you can return it. 

• If you have used it for no more than seven days, you will receive 50% of the purchase cost back.
• Returns are no longer possible from the eighth day of use.

Small dogs with a wither height of 30cm or less can travel for free provided they are in a suitable container (e.g. a transport box, a basket or another animal-friendly container) and placed under your seat.

Small dogs with a wither height of up to 30cm.

There is no cost for taking small dogs with you, provided they are in a suitable container under your seat. However, if a small dog travels outside of a container under the seat or on your lap, you require a separate 2nd class ticket at the half-fare price, a Day Pass for Dogs or a Dog Pass for the dog.

If you would like your small dog to travel on a seat, the dog must be in a suitable container and you must buy a separate 2nd class ticket at the half-fare price, a Day Pass for Dogs or a Dog Pass for the dog.

Large dogs with a wither height of more than 30cm.

Larger dogs must sit under your seat so that passage is not blocked for other passengers. In all cases, you require a separate 2nd class ticket at the half-fare price, a Day Pass for Dogs or a Dog Pass for the dog.

Day Passes for dogs and Dog Passes are not issued for a specific class and are valid both in 1st and 2nd class. The companion must hold a valid ticket for their class of travel.

Carriage of animals in coaches offering meals and refreshments (with the exception of coaches served by a Minibar) is prohibited. This does not apply to guide dogs and assistance dogs.
