Here you will find answers to questions about the Companion Travelcard.
Order.
You can order the Companion Travelcard on the SwissPass by post or online. It cannot be ordered at the counter.
You can order the Companion Travelcard for yourself or a person with a disability (e.g. as a parent, representative, helper, guardian etc.). It is important that you always use the SwissPass and the SwissPass login of the person travelling with a disability.
Order by post:
Download the ‘Application for a Companion Travelcard with medical confirmation’.
Complete all points on the computer (except for point 4).
Print out the completed form.
(Alternatively you can print out the PDF and then complete it by hand.)
Arrange for point 4 to be completed and signed by the doctor.
Then sign the medical certificate yourself (point 3).
If you do NOT have a SwissPass: attach a passport photo.
If you do NOT have a SwissPass: attach a copy of a valid official identification document (passport/ID card).
Send the medical certificate and the passport photo and copy of ID by post to the SBB Contact Centre, Companion Card, P.O. Box 176, 3900 Brig

The Companion Travelcard is valid for 10 years. We will send you a renewal reminder by post in good time before your Companion Travelcard expires.
All you need for the new Companion Travelcard is a newly completed and signed ‘Application with medical confirmation to obtain a Companion Travelcard’.
The Companion Travelcard is valid on the routes of Swiss transport companies participating in the Half Fare Travelcard area of validity.
For your travelcard on the SwissPass, you need to provide a passport photo that meets the following criteria:
Taken from the front (shot from the front, looking at the camera).
Eyes open and not covered (i.e. no sunglasses, no hair in front of eyes).
Face fully visible and uncovered.
No headwear. Exceptions for health or religious reasons upon request.
The background should ideally be single-colour and neutral, with high contrast between the head and the background.
The lighting should be even across the photo (no shadows on face).
A sharp and high-contrast photo.
Black and white or colour shot.
Approx. size 35mm × 45mm.
Analogue passport photo on photo paper (only original prints, no scanned photos or photos printed out on paper).
Digital photo: unedited, min. image size 400 × 512 pixels; in .JPG or .JPEG format with a maximum size of 6MB.
When placing the first order for a Companion Travelcard on the SwissPass.
If you already have a SwissPass or used to have another public transport travelcard, we will use the same photo for your new travelcard.
When placing a first order without SwissPass.
You will need to submit an original, high resolution passport photo taken recently.
When your photo expires.
The validity of the photo on the SwissPass is limited. You will be informed as soon as we need a new photo from you.
Adults need a new photo after 10 years.
Children and young people up to the age of 25 need a new photo after 5 years.
Order by post.
Please write your first name and surname in block capitals on the back of the photo.
Please attach the photo to the order form in the space indicated.
If you would like a new photo before the time limit has been reached (ten years for those aged 25 or older, five years for under 25s), please visit a staffed public transport point of sale. The new photo will be taken directly on site. You can then get a new SwissPass card with the new photo for a fee of CHF 30.

For orders with SwissPass.
All you need is the completed and signed ‘Application with medical confirmation to obtain a Companion Travelcard’.
For orders without SwissPass.
A current original passport photo for orders by post and a digital photo for online orders.
A copy of a valid official ID (passport/ID card) when ordering by post; as a scan or clearly legible photo when ordering online.
The signed medical certificate for orders by post or as a scan or clearly visible photo for online orders.
Delivery.
Do you already have a SwissPass?
The Companion Travelcard is activated directly on your SwissPass. As soon as this has been completed, you will receive notification via SMS or e-mail.
Is it your first SwissPass?
The SwissPass card will be sent to you by post. The SwissPass will be delivered within approx. ten days after processing. You will also receive notification via SMS text or e-mail as soon as the Companion Travelcard has been activated on your SwissPass and you can then display the Companion Travelcard on the SwissPass.

Have you lost your SwissPass or has it been damaged? You can order a SwissPass replacement card for CHF 30 online at SBB.ch, via the SBB Contact Center or at a staffed public transport point of sale.
If you’ve left your SwissPass at home or at the office, you can display it easily in the SBB Mobile app in the Tickets & SwissPass tile (you must have a login with a linked customer number to do so). Alternatively, for a fee of CHF 5 and upon presentation of a valid official ID, we can issue you with a temporary SwissPass at any ticket counter.
