What is the difference between the Junior Travelcard and the Children’s Co-Travelcard?

With the Children’s Co-Travelcard, a child can travel together with a selected adult (aged 16 or over) for a whole year throughout Switzerland. With the Junior Travelcard, the child can travel together with a parent for a whole year throughout Switzerland. Important: in all cases, each child requires their own Junior Travelcard or Children’s Co-Travelcard. In addition, the adult companion or the parent requires a valid ticket.

What is the difference between a Day Pass Children and the Children’s Co-Travelcard or the Junior Travelcard?

The Day Pass Children is a normal Day Pass, but just at a greatly reduced price. With the Day Pass Children, a child aged under 16 can travel alone throughout Switzerland for an entire day. The Day Pass Children costs CHF 19 per day for 2nd class and CHF 33 for 1st class.

Which documents do I need to purchase a Day Pass Children?

None. The Day Pass for Children is available for all children aged at least 6 and under 16. However, for the ticket inspection, the child must always have their personal and valid official ID or SwissPass with them.

The Day Pass Children is available online on SBB.ch, in the SBB Mobile app, at ticket machines and at staffed public transport points of sale. Purchase a Day Pass Children online Here’s how to purchase in the SBB Mobile app. Open the SBB Mobile app. Switch to ‘Shop & Services’ in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen and tap on ‘Day Pass Children’. Tap on ‘Edit passenger’ (pencil icon) and enter the child’s first name, surname and date of birth. Then tap on ‘Save’. Under ‘Who is travelling?’, tick the box next to the child who is travelling and untick your own name (if the child is travelling alone). Tap on ‘Accept’. Junior Travelcard.

The Junior Travelcard allows children aged at least 6 and under 16 to travel for free for a whole year throughout Switzerland with a parent.

Parents do not need a SwissPass themselves to buy a Junior Travelcard for their child.

The accompanying parent must hold a valid ticket for 2nd or 1st class (e.g. a ticket, GA Travelcard, Point-to-Point Travelcard); the child can travel in either class for free.

The Junior Travelcard is free from the third child.

The Junior Travelcard is issued on the SwissPass.

Children’s Co-Travelcard.

The Children’s Co-Travelcard allows children aged at least 6 and under 16 to travel for free for a whole year throughout Switzerland when accompanied by a person aged 16 or over. The companion must hold a valid ticket (e.g. a ticket, a GA Travelcard, a Point-to-Point Travelcard).

The companion does not need a SwissPass themselves to buy a Children’s Co-Travelcard for the child.

The Children’s Co-Travelcard is issued on the SwissPass.

A companion can take a maximum of four children with them. Each child must have their own Children’s Co-Travelcard.

GA Travelcard for Children.

With a GA Travelcard for Children, children aged 6 or over and under 16 can travel alone and without restriction on public transport in Switzerland. The GA Travelcard for Children is a full GA Travelcard but at a reduced price.

It is ideal for children who commute to school or regularly travel on public transport, for example.

Tip: if a parent holds a GA Travelcard, we recommend you purchase a GA Travelcard Familia for Children.

GA Travelcard Familia for Children.

If at least one parent in the same household has a basic GA Travelcard (possible basic GA Travelcards are the GA Travelcards for Adults, GA Travelcard for Youth, GA Travelcard for 25 Year Olds, GA Travelcard for Seniors or GA Travelcard for Disabled Persons), the GA Travelcard Familia for Children and the GA Travelcard Familia for Youth are available at a favourable price.

The second parent also receives a discount (GA Travelcard Familia for Adults) if a member of the household has a Familia GA Travelcard for Children or GA Travelcard for Youth in addition to the basic GA Travelcard for the mother or father. Please note that different documents are needed in order to purchase the GA Travelcard Familia for Children, the GA Travelcard Familia for Youth and the GA Travelcard Familia for Adults.

As GA Travelcards for family members are linked to a basic GA Travelcard, all GA Travelcards for one family must be on the SwissPass.
